Unsubstantiated Rumor regarding Arnold
I don't know how much faith I put in this, but a friend of mine in California who has a friend who works for Arnie's campaign says that if Arnold loses he will still quit acting (if that is what it is called)and will continue his political career since he now has the "political bug" and will run for Barbara Boxer's seat in the Senate next year.

He will blame his loss on "democratic dirty tricks" in the last days and almost immediately jump into the Senate race, according to this friend of my friend.

As I said this is just rumor, but do you think that makes sense? jumping into a senate race right after losing a governors race?

2. Whoa. First things first.
Let's celebrate his (hoped for) loss first, then worry about the rest.

5. Actually it does make sense
if he truly is bitten by the politics bug, then the Senator race is the next best thing, possibly even better since it is on a national level.

Good god, can you imagine him on C-span?! Ugh! (And dis ees vere Ah would pull out my gun and shoot you!)

6. Sounds like a male dog marking his territory by pissing ...
... on all of the fire hydrants and trees in the neighborhood.

My apologies to dog owners.

By this time next year he will be fighting sexual harassment suits and will have been recalled in shame.

10. Boxer wil defeat him
She won by 800,000 votes in 1998. Unless she finds herself in a major scandal she will win although she will have to campaign for it.

11. Wouldn't surprise me at all.
I think he's been discussing his political aspirations for years.

The recall just gave him the opportunity to steal an election instead of having to participate in a "real" election with debates, etc.

15. Why does he
wan't to be in politics? Does he feel like his acting career might be stalling out? I think he has too much excess baggage and time is only going to bring more of it out so he may need to get an editor and start on a book/something if he doesn't want to act. HOWEVER, I WANT TO GET THROUGH THIS NIGHTMARE TODAY BEFORE CONCENTRATING ON THAT.

16. He's a narcissist. He heads his own fan club.
Monday's Bob Herbert column in the NYT:

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/10/06/opinion/06HERB.html

<snip>

He may once have admired Hitler for whatever reasons, but I'm sure if you asked Arnold Schwarzenegger whom he admires most, the honest answer would be, "Ah-nold!"

Welcome to the world of undiluted narcissism. The man who is now the betting favorite to become the next governor of the crazy state of California has spent a lifetime pirouetting in front of cameras and mirrors, contemplating his navel and every other part of his once-buff bod.

If there's a voter anywhere in the state who thinks this character will spend even a hot minute wrestling with the realities of budgets and such, that person should seek immediate counseling. There's a reason Mr. Schwarzenegger announced his candidacy on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno." He doesn't want to govern. He just wants to be adored.

<snip>

Narcisissm is about seduction, manipulation and the quest for power and control. There is no better breeding ground for it than Hollywood. But even in Hollywood, Arnold is an extraordinary case.

more...

12. Arnold's Movie Career is Tanking - So YES
Go to us.imdb.com and look at his last several films. Compare the cost of making them to what they took in at the box office.

He's getting too old to make nothing but action movies, and his plastic surgery is looking too hideous for him to star in anything else.

13. correction:
Arnold couldn't "quit" acting, since he never did it before. He obviously isn't the best politician in the race, and, with Gary Coleman in the field, he's not even the best actor.
