Just Voted ..."Under Protest" ...Easy to do, You should to |
|
I just voted "under protest" in our local elections (greensboro, NC) as our voting is done on computer voting machines without a voter-verifiable voter trail.
When you check-in to vote tell the clerk that you want to vote "under protest" and they will give you a special form to fill out to explain why. This in turn will be presented to the election board.
On my form I commented on the John Hopkins/Rice studies about the vunerabilities of computer only voting systems and refered them to Russ Holt's House Resolution 2239 (making paper trails mandatory) for additional information.
If everybody who votes were to do this it would in effect be a non-ballot referendum on the voting systems used....

1. I didn't know you could do that |
|
That is awesome. Everyone should do this. If enough people do it, then it turns into a vote of no confidence in the election system.

10. My suggestion: When making the request, speak loudly |
|
and explain exactly why you are voting under protest (for the benefit of the other voters in line).

13. How conveeeenient . For 2004 we should push absentee ballots. |
|
It should publicized in touch screen precincts that the only way your vote can be securely recorded is on an absentee ballot. If they are inundated with absentee ballots, that will send a huge message about how much people trust paperless systems.
