Was invited to my Republican in-laws last night

They had some friends over and the discussion turned to the Hurricanes and it was clear that I was outnumbered by Republicans. I decided to be a polite guest, so I didn't say much and just sat and ate.

I found it really interesting what these 6 Republicans were saying. One woman said that she was hoping to retire next year, but she probably wouldn't be able to until she is 65 because of the cost of health insurance. Then one of the couples son started working for a financial company selling retirement plans and things. They said it was hard for him to get started because people don't have the extra money to invest. They said that the stock market didn't look very good and won't turn around for awhile.

I really, really wanted to open my mouth and yell at them that their support for Bu$h is the cause of these things.

Need health insurance? Vote Democratic and get Universal Health Care.

No extra money for investments? What about all those tax cuts? Oh gas is too much? Why did you vote for a Oil man to run the government?

Stock market tanking? Why don't we let the Corporate pigs steal our pensions and take our tax dollars?

At least as we were leaving and they were talking about the poor economy, I did say that things will get better in 2008. We can only hope.

to see that THEY are a significant part of the problem when THEY elect republicans and neocons that promise one thing and do the exact opposite. THEY have voted for their own destruction and I can't understand why THEY don't see IT!!!!!

With them they don't like the government unless they're being effected. When it's someone else they just claim they're lazy and want to be poor or it's their own fault they had problems or whatever. Then when it hits them they expect pity when they didn't give it to anyone else.

....is that they get their people to vote against their own economic interests time and again. as much as i hate all things republican, i have to admit i admire their marketing strategies. they could sell shampoo to a bald guy.

....economic policies to even one working class stiff is amazing. being able to sell it to half of them is mind blowing.

imagine:
southern white working class people vote overwhelmingly republican despite the facts that the tax cuts go to the rich and the working class has to shoulder the economic burden in the country.

high percentage of seniors vote republican despite the fact that the repubs side with the pharmaceuticals and make it impossible for these same people to get affordable meds.

36% of bush's voters in 2004 were "evangelical christians" despite the fact that he ran as a war president.

That wide-eyed smile pasted on the face look... where only your mouth corners move into an expression resembling a smile, but... it really isn't.

I had to learn how to do that one for HOURS at my last job.

It's come in handy in later social situations.

8. Knowing me I would've spoken up

I would've asked the same type of question's myself. I wouldn't give a damn about their fuzzy feelings. I would've said: "oh? Don't like how things are going? How did you vote?" And then if they voted for Bush I would've said "That's what you got. Too bad. You should've listened to John Kerry but oops. I guess your futures didn't matter that much."

The Republican party has knocked them down and is kicking them, but yet it's like they lay there with a smile on their face and say "Thank you sir may I have another?"
