Just Got back from DC, here are my pictures (warning lots of pics!)

First I have to say that today was AMAZING. We the people OWNED the nations capital today, I mean OWNED it. I would say that there were easily 300 thousand, probably more. The difference between todays protest and the last one I attended on the Mall Jan 20 2003 was one the weather. Today was PERFECT in that it was cloudy and cool as opposed to sunny and frigid back then. Today the streets were filled every way I looked. The pictures will show this. There were just protesters EVERYWHERE. At about three, my family and friends cut away to eat because we were starving to death and had not eaten all day. We went to Hard Rock Cafe and had a beer a burger and videos of Rage Against the Machine. When we headed back to the mall, we ran into the laughable "pro-war" group. There was like fifty people and they were on the corner being protected by DC's finest. Everyone was yelling at them, and we called them accomplices in murder because that's what they are. We didn't chill for the concert because, unfortunately, I had to get back home and do all the things I normally do on Saturdays although my son and his girlfreind are still at the concert right now -- they know some of the musicians and are working backstage.

Today, in short, was the best feeling I have had since the Jan. 2003. There was no letdown today, there was total satisfaction knowing that I'm in the majority. I am not crazy, I am not a far left loony. I am the mainstream. To be with hundreds of thousands of people like you is so fucking edifying, I can't begin to describe it.

A comment on a couple of pics. One is titled "Breasts Not Bombs" --hey I don't make the news, I just report it. Another is "Anarchists against the War" -- big hit with my kids. And the last pic of the van, well, it just had to be photographed. To quote my buddy, "an insane person owns that vehicle, please take the picture".. The rest speak for themselves. Everywhere you looked there were thousands of people. And they are still there!!!! So great. . ! :hi:

I recall, when I lived in DC, the feeling of solidarity when I attended a huge pro-choice rally on the mall. It really is uplifting to be amongst a sea of "friends."

Thanks for these photos. They really get across a sense of what was going on -- diversity in every respect, too, including in the messages sent. I am happy to see that someone paired the Norquist quote with a picture of a drowned US city, too. Neocon scum...wonder how much longer they'll be able to get away with it for.

It's funny because as everyone is marching the route, there are all the "sideshows of protest" and folks would come to a stop and we'd be like WTF? And then we'd inch along and stop and take photos and just take it all in.

22. The clarinet guy was damned good

he played a plethora of tunes that were relevent. The people there were way cool, at least the ones I was close to. Everyone was smiling and happy to be amongst each other, but mostly eeryone was happy to finally get the chance to say "Bush has to go!" and "Impeach Bush Now!"

It was so much more than "Out of Iraq"

I do have the feeling we're going to have to do this again though.

Well, yes...I've been saying this same thing for many, many years.

Really, though, I wonder what their position was, legally, in that city. As I understand it, a woman going topless may not be breaking any specific laws in many US cities...kind of surprising, given the odd way that the US is about such things. If that's really the case -- obviously, in the context of the protest this kind of antiAmerican exposure of mammary devices is more likely something you'd get away with -- then I imagine some hard-line judge, perhaps named Roberts, is looking into adding a breast-containment amendment to the Constitution.

I posted this in another thread, but I'll post it here also. I went with my sister, her friend and my two children. I have pictures if someone wants to host them just drop me a pm.

And I can assure you that there were way more than 100,000 people there. I knew it was going to be huge from the time I left BWI to go to the Greenbelt Station. The bus was so crowded that there wasn't any standing room left. Then when we got to the Greenbelt Station there were people everywhere. The train we got on was deemed by the conductor to be filled to capacity and he instructed people to wait for the next train which would be right behind him. I was starting to feel like this was going to be bigger than anything anyone had expected.

We arrived in DC at 11:00 because the first bus from Greenbelt wasn't until 9:40 and as we made our way over to the ellipse, I was overwhelmed by all the people. We fought our way through the crowd and were able to catch a few of the speakers including Ramsey Clark and Damu Smith, but many people were already lining up to march. We spent a little over an hour listening to the speakers and then decided to line up also. It took us two hours to march from the ellipse to the White House, which is normally a 15 minute walk.

The life and spirit of the people who were there was evident in the variety of people who showed up today. I have been to all but one of the rallies in DC and this was the largest and the most diverse by far. Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, families with small children, disabled Americans, Grandparents, veterans, soldiers and military families were all represented there. I was so impressed with the people who showed up and even though there were some messages that I didn't agree with, I believe everyone there felt a sense that there was one thing we could ALL agree on-- George Bush has got to go!!!!!!

I was on the metro and when I looked over on the 14th st bridge, the billboard truck was on its way out of town. It was going towards the Pentagon on 395 south.

I didn't know if I caught them in the shot, but I see that I did. The DC Police were very cool IMO. They weren't looking for trouble and seemed sorta pleased in a way.

I can't get over how all the streets were closed to traffic and we just owned the place. My only regret was not being able to capture an overhead view to demonstrate how many FREAKIN PEOPLE there were.

16. Los Angeles kicked ass!

We had 1000's of peeps at the march downtown. I have the cell phone from hell and kept trying to hook up w/ my SoCal DU'ers. At one point my feet said to me, girlfriend ...... we done!

All and all it was wonderful. My sign was a hit. I had m' photo taken a lot. I felt like Loretta Young!

The man in the green shirt in the center was raised in New Orleans and lake Charles. He has watched his entire childhood float away under the shrub.
