Has anyone seen ANYTHING on Mainstream TV Media about Peace March?
Edited on Sat Sep-24-05 07:15 PM by KoKo01
I'm meaning: Networks, MSNBC, CNN, CNBC, CNN HEADLINE,FOX or even ESPN.

I finally gave up and went online to read the wire services and AP did have what I thought was an excellent report on the Peace March. It really papered over the A.N.S.W.E.R. and United for Peace side issues that many DU'er find fault with and did a good job of making it "diverse
issues."

But...I never saw a peep between RITA, RITA, RITA...which was a big suck up coverage to Bush and Texas and the National Guard, Military and all the big ships sitting off the coast who are so well-equipped and "ready to move in." Where were they in NO's, I wondered, the Iwo Jima and the supposed other ships housing medical facilities and the "rescue workers."

Anyway...wondered if ANY MAIN STREAMS reported, since I gave up and turned it off about 6:30 edt...

Here's a link to the AP article...don't get hung up on the numbers they report but read the whole article if you are REALLY interested to see a fair report. At least I thought it was very fair and I watched the protest on C-Span and tried to read the blogs from Pitt. I was a viewer and not a participant but as such if I'd not watched it...I would have felt informed by the AP article in a favorable way.

ANTI-WAR PROTESTORS MARCH IN WASHINGTON

By JENNIFER C. KERR, Associated Press Writer 3 minutes ago

Opponents of the war in Iraq marched Saturday in a clamorous day of protest, song and remembrance of the dead, some showing surprisingly diverse political views even as they spoke with one loud voice in wanting U.S. troops home.

The surging crowd, shouting "Bush out now" and "Peace now," marched in front of the White House and then to the Washington Monument in an 11-hour marathon of dissent.

They were young people with green hair, nuns whose anti-war activism dates to Vietnam, parents mourning their children in uniform lost in Iraq, and uncountable families motivated for the first time to protest.

President Bush himself was out of town, monitoring hurricane recovery efforts from Colorado and Texas. The protesters shouted for his impeachment.

"We have to get involved," said Erika McCroskey, 27, who came from Des Moines, Iowa, with her younger sister and mother for her first demonstration, traveling in just one of the buses that poured into the capital from far-flung places.

"Bush Lied, Thousands Died," said one sign. "End the Occupation," said another.

Police Chief Charles H. Ramsey, noting that organizers had hoped to draw 100,000 people, said, "I think they probably hit that."

A few hundred people in a counterdemonstration in support of Bush's Iraq policy lined the protest route near the FBI building. The two groups shouted at each other, a police line keeping them apart.

(NOTE: this is only a "snip" of a long article and a good read.

3. Brian Williams
Had a clip showing the protest. He mentioned there were a few hundred supporters of the war but showed no video or stills of them.

I don't recall if it was NBC Nightly News or their extended coverage...

5. I saw it. Their extended nightly news, I think. They gave less than
a minute of coverage of the protest. They pretty much had the protest on Ignore.

7. CNN/Headline News has about a 30-45 second clip they showed
It had a really crappy, "shooting though the trees" view to it though.

Other than that, I just read that MSNBC followed the march and protest, but, how meany have, let alone watch MSNBC?

NPR did a good Radio story on it, and Reuters and AFP did some good print/internet work on it.

10. CNN Headline News has it juxtaposed in the rotation
with Cheney and his knee aneurisms over and over looking gosh darn healthy from his outpatient surgery which is likely covered by insurance ... they also pointed out with Google Earth all of the petrochemical infrastructure affected by the storms.

It got just as much weight as the rest of the big stories, they kept returning to it.

9. Just a Little Blurb - Basically Nothing
I saw just a 30 second spot about the peace march on one of the cable news networks very early this morning. I think it was CNN. They showed a quick picture of one of the candlelight vigils that took place the night before and some people who opposed the march waving signs and then they said maybe 2 or 3 lines about it. I was excited about this all week and then a big nothing. What a let down. Guess they figured showing too much about it would make Bush's ratings plummet even lower. Whew!

14. CNN International just had a good piece on it and the others around...
...the World, in places like England and I think Holland (I had the sound muted at the beginning)

It was on during Anderson Cooper 360 (with Paula Zahnn filling in, wearing her "smart and Sexy" glasses).

I don't know if it was on American CNN, but they were doing a simulcast at the time. They could have run a different tape for the U.S. audience, Anyone else see it on CNN just before 9:00pm EDT?

They showed British and American Protesters, then even showed a British Mother of a dead Soldier taking her petition to #10 Downing Street, then they showed the British Tank on fire and the British soldier scrambling out of it.
