Pictures from Seattle Protest (DIAL-UP WARNING!!)
My daughter and I went to the Seattle protest today. It was GREAT! A first for the both of us. The news said about 4,000; it was probably that or 5,000. No trouble that we saw, though heard one person was arrested for "pedestrian interference" whatever that means.

Our speakers included Jim McDermott (MY rep!!), and one of the nuns just released from 2-1/2 years in prison for symbolically dismantling a missile. She was great -- stepped up to the microphone and said "I'm a felon!" The crowd went crazy!

We saw so many great signs and posters; caught some of them in my pictures. I loved "Uncle Sam" with the oil barrel on his back, King Oil,(the giant purple guy with a crown on his hea), and gasoline nozzles for hands, and Captain Powder.

I met FreeplessinSeattle. Noticed a woman walking ahead of me at one point with a DU bumpersticker on her poster, so I went up to her and asked if she posted on DU. She said yes, so we introduced ourselves. Walked the rest of the march route with her.

These pictures did not load in order. The smaller ones were taken at Westlake Plaza where the rally was. The larger ones go last-to-first; couldn't figure out how to change the order of them.

The close-up picture of the two females with protest signs is of me and my wonderful daughter. (I'm on the left in case you couldn't tell which one is the mommy!)

All in all, a fabulous day -- great crowd, great energy, great cause!

7. Their absence was duly noted by one of the speakers!
Not sure how they are voting on Roberts. Cantwell has pretty much lost my support, period. I still have respect for Murray, particularly for her support of veterans, but I'm watching her also!

10. Just remembered a few more details from today:
While we were still at Westlake Plaza for the Rally, my daughter and I were standing near the street, and many people driving by honked, waved and flashed the peace sign to us.

On the march, we passed by a building under construction, and several of the construction workers smiled and gave us the peace sign.

After the march was over, my daughter and I walked up the hill from downtown, to a coffee shop where we waited for my husband to pick us up. We were sitting at an outdoor table, our protest signs propped up beside us, other people who had been at the march walked by with their signs. We all smiled at each other, gave each other applause and "All right"s!

I'll probably remember more later, but I'm so tired (a happy tired), that I will post more later.

12. Great pics! Some things I didn't see myself
love the Uncle Sam with the oil drum and soldier. Some really creative people in Seattle. Wish I could remember all the neat signs I saw. "George of the Bungle" and War is terrorism with a bigger budget" are all I remember. and a graphic of * holding a cardboard sign that said "Will kill for oil".

I was so excited, I found some buttons with a graphic of the Get a brain Morans guy!! bought 3, so will give 2 to two lucky DUers at the next meet-up (Seattlegirl gets first dibs tho since she was so thoughtful with a water bottle, perfect timing, too)

It was a pleasure meeting you Seattlegirl, and your daughter! I'm glad you approached me, nice to meet a fellow DUer and comrade, and I really appreciated the water, thank you! (ok, I'll identify myelf, that's me with the "How many lives per gallon?", I don't photograph well, and always have a goofy expression on my face. but the sign looks sharp! other side had the DU sticker and
It
Really is

Quagmire

14. Good turnout - Four Thousand plus, according to Police.
via Channel 7. Too many for me to be able to spot any DU insignia. Nice pictures, they give a good feel for the march and rally. Thanks for posting them. Another Seattle DUer's pix are at http://photobucket.com/albums/a207/merwinski/Seattle%20Anti-War%20Protest%202005-09-24/?

17. Thanks everybody!
Glad I could share these with you, and a BIG thank you to everyone else who has posted pictures from the demonstrations they went to. So many cool pictures.

Hey, could we do a "DU Protesters" photo book? I have no idea what it would take, but there are just so many wonderful, incredible pictures that it would be great to compile them all into a book. DU could sell it in their store, make some money to help keep going, and we could have something totally cool to look at and give us inspiration in times of darkness.

Skinner, you there?
