3. I know

all about it's uses. I'm not interested. I want to see the legalization of marijuana itself, period. But more for political and moral reasons than anything else. I'm mainly interested in seeing the major pharmacuetical lobby that's been against it all along for profit driven reasons squirm. I'd also like to see most Repugs squirm at it too. Then I'd like to see thousands of drug cops, courts and lawyers get shitcanned and forced to find a real job. I'd also like to see the alcohol lobby get it's nose rubbed into it.

Far as the uses of hemp goes, and your wishing it legalized, I'm all for it

It's getting a bit old, frankly.

Look, we can walk and chew gum at the same time. We can keep this in our radar for longer than Bush's attention span.

But, the simple truth is that this bill is DOA, for two reasons. Among the right wing (whose agreement is necessary for passage), hemp is associated with marijuana (wrongly, of course, but, nevertheless), and second, in the Bush administration, the forestry industry and the cotton farmers are seeking ways to protect their industries--new fibers are not in their sights.

The bill has been referred to Committee on Health, where it has continued to languish. The bill's co-sponsors, as best as I can gather, are all Democrats (what luck will that bunch have in this Congress?).

This is a good bill at precisely the wrong time.

It's time to give it a rest and stop exhorting people over and over to support something they likely already have supported, to the extent that they can, and get back to more immediate issues.

It's time to acknowledge that flogging a dead horse--in the midst of more pressing matters--annoys even the best-intentioned of people. *chagrined smile*

8. Gee, you must really be sick of the...

end the war in Iraq messages, as they have gone on quite a bit longer than the "last few days". Is this bill dead on arrival? It was sponsored by Ron Paul, a republican in the great oily state of Texas, in June of this year. And at a time of record high oil prices, I believe many people would love to hear about Hemp's energy potential. I have no idea whether our leaders are hearing from us about it, but judging by the responses from many people here, quite a few have yet to hear about H.R. 3037. So while this may be "old" to you, might I suggest that you simply avoid my threads about this important, and quite frankly, very pressing matter.

9. It's not pressing, however much you may believe in it....

There are more important things to do.

As an example, I suggested that this bill goes nowhere because of the Republicans and Bush and their corporate interests. In order to accomplish what this bill intends, you must first get rid of the obstructions to the bill, i.e., the Bushies. You seem to think that's not of so much interest as compared to the bill itself, given the number of times you've worried everyone about it.

Spend some time in your legislature if you've never done so and see what it's like to get a bill passed, I would suggest. Understand the obstacles.

If you spend your time profitably, you're less likely to waste the time of others.

First things first. Comprende'? :)

What are the things that are more important to do, in your opinion?
Which one of those issues will be supported by the "bushies"?
Have you contacted your rep. about your support for this bill?
Is Cindy Sheehan wasting her time?
Did we go to war for oil?
Does NeoCon James Woolsey drive a Prius?
Does bush still have a mandate?
Are gas prices rising to the point that more people are thinking about alternative fuels?
Is Hemp effective as a carbon sink?
Whose time, besides yours, am I wasting?

5. Hemp is versatile stuff.... Makes a viable & eco friendly Alt FUEL

Although I personally agree that hemp should be legalized for all uses, especially medicinal and including recreational, getting it *re*legalized as a crop for usable products could help revialize the economy. If nothing else we need to further explore it as yet another option for a renewable and viable fuel source.

7. If I remember correctly....

the type of hemp used for fuel and other products is not quite the same as the type some like to toke. It won't give you the same buzz... only about the same as dried corn silk.

OTOH... legalizing MJ for rec use may very well give those manufacturers a boost. ;) Although I had tried it a time or two in my younger days my personal main interest now in hemp/MJ is for Fuel and medicinal. I do have a couple of fond memories from those by gone days but they weren't because of the munchies side effect. ;)

Anyway, I figure it this way... sometimes things need to be done in baby steps: first legalize the production of Hemp.. then medicinal MJ... then rec MJ. The thing that gets me is there truly is no REAL reason to have it illegal when so many other products that are potentially just as bad if not much worse for us that are legal. It's pure gov fear mongering BS.
