Not to Decry Clark

It occured to me a while ago that had General Clark decided to retire just a couple of years earlier that it is quite possible that he would now be our President, but that he might be a Republican President, but he would have been one that would not have got us in the mess we are in right now. And then there is the question of if I would have voted for him if he had been a Republican candidate. Undoubtedly not, although it is my very firm desire to be able to vote for him for President a little over a year from now. Just a thought.

1. Possible, but I'm not sure how likely. In an interview in February 2002,

when he was contemplating a run for Congress, he said that both parties had asked him to consider politics for their side.

I think that it is pretty likely that he has planned on running as a Democrat for longer than most people give him credit for. Between the war in Iraq and his history of butting heads with Republicans like William Cohen, I think the die was likely cast at least a couple of years ago.

That's over 10 years ago...since he began identifying with the Left. That's more than "a couple of years".

Anyway, since your post is entirely speculation.... who knows, maybe Clark would have run on the Green ticket.
