So. Apparently Jon Stewart is the most powerful person on television.
This, according to a scary freeper I just had a conversation with. Now, I like Jon Stewart, I like him a lot, but the most powerful person on television? If that's how scared your average Free Republic poster is of Stewart and his influence, I think we should all relax, at least a little.

1. Kind of creepy but not really surprising...
...Freepers are damn chickenshit about him.

2. Well, he's scary because he tells the truth on a show that is watched
by all sorts of people. Freepers don't want people to hear about truth. Terribly threatening!

6. What scares freepers is the rules of comedy.

"Most of the best comedy is the truth" - a basic rule

"If you bend it it's funny. It you break it, that's not funny."
I heard it first in Woody Allen's Crimes and Misdemenors, but I'm sure it's older. Same rule as above. If you have to exagerate, mare the exagerations small ones. This one scares the crap out of Freepers because they have this desperate need to exagerate not only their opposition's POV but also distort perception of themselves.

"If you tell the direct truth in very few words it is usually the funniest thing to say" - Freepers can't do brevity of thought?

"Anything that we all do , but no one talks about is instanly funny," -George Carlin said this and it's pretty scary to conesrvative and Bushies.

"I've never met a Stupid Commedian. I've met plenty who act stupid..."
-Alan King said that and it's true, to be funny, that magical thing that attracts people to you, you have to be smart. This is the part of our reprductive process that guarntees intellegence in the species. Humor=Brain. Act Stupid?=Ability to get in a Zinger at the right moment.

There's a lot Freepers Fear from John Stewart, but it's really just fear of comedy.

Kinda like imaginary monsters were supposed to fear the cross...

5. The Daily Show is very popular with young people
I think it would be safe to say that a lot of his viewers get the news from his show. It is humorous and fun to watch. The Rightwing doesn't have anything to counter that. Young people aren't flocking to watch O'Lielly like they are to watch Stewart.

I think Stewart should have a radio show. Every once in awhile on The Daily Show Stewart gets on a rant and you can really see how smart he is. A radio show would allow him to have a more in-depth, intelligent show and keep his incredibly funny TV Show.

11. Excellent point about the younger audience.

I just wish more of the young were inspired to act by what they see on TDS. Even I (still young-ish) had to be motivated by other things to actually get involved (and yes, those other things had to come from "real" news).

7. Jon Stewart is the only person on TV calling out BS as he sees
it. So yeah...pretty powerful.

9. Well, he may have a point. Let me put it this way.
Rush Limbaugh attacks Dems, libs, gays, blacks, Mexicans, and anybody who dares call the Repukes out on the truth. His attempt at humor is usually reminiscent of "Hockeypuck" Don Rickes, but without the charm.

When he is called on the carpet for remarks he makes, he runs behind the first amendment AND the ACLU (pretty handy little shields for someone who doesn't like them) and claims that "Hey, I'm just a loveable little teddy bear ENTERTAINER. Can I help it if some people take me seriously?"

Then, you have Jon Stewart.

He reports a lot of the truth, and in a funny way that makes the undecideds laugh, along with quite a few of the non-Kool-Aid righties.

And it's obviously SATIRE. And it's obviously FUNNY.

And the stuff that he makes up is also ACTUALLY FUNNY. And he comes out straight up saying that he is AN ENTERTAINER - not as a defense when he fucks up.
