What is it about the RW and looting?
Bill Kristol today on Chris Matthews said we lost the war in Iraq when the looting began.

We all know what they have said about looting in New Orleans after the hurricane.

But they are the biggest looters of all. They loot the treasury to pay for needless wars, to fund unnecessary tax cuts and to pad the pocket books of big business. They want to loot Social Security next.

So WTF with all this talk from the right about LOOTING???

1. Looting proves
that they DESERVE TO DIE AND IT ISN'T OUR FAULT.

6. So the Republicans looting the national treasury
deserve to die?

Cool. Will there be public executions?

2. They're trying to demonize the people doing the looting.
Trying to make them seem less human in our eyes so that we won't worry about what happens to them.

Of course, if you really look at the Repubs, you have a pretty good idea of what "less human" really looks like.

3. they always accuse others of their own crimes
they have been looting the national treasury since Inauguration Day 2000 made the coup official.

They are, in fact, the biggest looters in the history of the earth.

11. That is the Gold Standard for hypocrites...always blame others for what
you are doing to ensure that the criticism is deflected. The neo-cons have this down to an art form.

4. Looting = Code word for RACIST thought and sentiment.
Looting is used to justify the racist sentiment pervading ALL right-wing thinking.

9. They love their material possessions.
Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 11:14 AM by Heaven and Earth
They commit every outrage against their fellow man in pursuit of them. So if some radical rightists lose the prizes of their degradation, they have nothing left. Also, they are selfish and self-absorbed, so when they see people taking stuff, they think of being robbed themselves.

12. My republican brother is like this...paranoia about losing their "stuff."
My brother is quite well off, with a 4000sf McMansion and a second home on the Maine coast. He was handed his job by my dad from his death bed, as he was flunking out of a third-string college in GA at the time. He started off his life with ALL of my dad's belongings -- Roche Bobois furniture, hi-end everything. He moved into his first apartment not having to purchase so much as a set of silverware. While he works hard now, he was given a major league head start in life, and was essentially well-off from the day he flunked out of college, as a result of his being "caretaker" to all my father's possessions, as my sister and I were minors at the time, and had no used for an apartment full of fine furniture and accessories. By the time we were, he had sold much of it off, and kept the money for himself. "The $5000 sofa was old, anyway. I didn't get that much for it."

But after he'd begun to "make it" on his own, he began to show this classic republican paranoia about looting. My guess is, his own guilt from knowing he'd actually burned his own siblings led him to this. When we moved to N.E. from Florida, my wife and I stayed at his house for 6 weeks while we found jobs and set up our own apartment. When we packed to leave, he LITERALLY was checking silverware and inventorying his "stuff" to make sure we didn't take anything. Mind you, we both had landed very good jobs already, making good money, and didn't need/want any of his "stuff," much of which was still the original stuff of dad's from 10 years prior. When my younger sister came to stay with him, same thing. He was constantly checking his "stuff" to see if we had taken his beer mugs, his silverware, his ashtrays...everything. He was constantly afraid of losing his "stuff."

My guess is, since they know they got it through a form of "looting," without really working for it, they are more prone to fear losing it just as easily, and think everyone is out to loot their stuff. After all, that's basically what THEY'D do. Why wouldn't everyone else?

13. Half Truths
"We lost the war in Iraq when the looting began".

Actually, it was SHOWN that we hadn't proprerly prepared for war when the looting began, not just because that there was looting but for what WE (the U.S.) allowed to be looted.

Allowed:
1. Museums (priceless artifacts looted)
2. War Ministry (information that might have told us about WMD's looted)
3. National Archives (information about criminals, government officials, and maybe those pesky WMD's again.)

Not Allowed
1. Oil Ministry.

18. You'd think they'd prevent it, since they care about it so much.
Peter Jennings was talking about the looting in Iraq before we even invaded. I remember clearly his talking about the artifacts, etc. But we stationed people at the oil fields, not the museums.

You'd think in LA they'd have some kind of provision for if the power goes out--selling stuff at a discount before a storm or after the storm, etc. Evacuating the guns with the employees/store representatives. But nooooo.

I think they just like to complain about it.

20. Reinforces their belief that world
is a dangerous place that they need to be protected from by a strong leader with a strong military presence.

While they play out all these delusions on poor coked-out *, I have no idea.
