Picket Media Stations for Blackout of Anti-War March coverage
What about doing this over the next few weeks -- with press conference to be headed by some Congresspeople insisting that Democracy needs to be practiced at home. Maybe we need to send OUR troops to spread democracy. (And then THAT doesn't get covered ---so what is the next step?)

There was a hurricane in Texas yesterday.

3. I think we al,l ought to at least baragge them with e-mail
After almost breaking the mold with Katrina, they've fallen back into their bad old ways.

We need to make clear that there are a significant number of people who are disappointed and pissed that they ignored it. Sure Rita was a bofg deal, but they should be able to walk and chew gum at thesame time.

We need to push them not to put their newly discovered consciences back into the closet.

4. The problem with just emailing them is it's all behind closed doors
How are we going to start PUBLICLY exposing the MSM as opposed to just bitching about them among ourselves?

(And Hurricane Rita is not an excuse to erase 3-500,000 Americans actively representing many more throughout the country saying no to Bush)

Where is Abbie Hoffman when he's so needed?

5. It's a start
What they care about is ratings and money. More people can e-mail than travel to New York to picket.

I'm not saying it's either/or, but we have to send the feedback as their "customers."

6. Since bush doesn't have the guts to be in the white house
while the country is sending him a personal message via a peace march, and the media has chosen to press the ignore button, maybe next time the march should be at the front doors of their corporate offices. Whadya think of us now, NBC, CBS, ABC and CNN??

7. Yes! This is what I'm talking about.
As someone mentioned that "SHUT-UP-A-THON!" in front of Fox during the RNC protests last year was pretty effective. It might be nice to identify how many DU'ers in NY who would be willing to hold a monthly picket in front of different media outlets for their skewed coverage. People Outside of NY could picket affiiliate stations as well.

Or what about targetting their corporate sponsors for economic boycotts.

We just can't wait another 6 months for the next major demo or until next year's elections. Their has to be a way of upping the ante.

People may have taken longer to get on the same page during Vietnam War, but once they did there was a steady incline of upping the ante of committment to fighting the war and more outpouring of creativity.

8. But of course the bottom line is the buck, and the buck is provided
by the sponsors. We could picket until the cows came home and get another minutes worth of coverage, but if we got to the sponsors, it would make a difference. Remember when we screamed bloody murder to the sponsers when one of the networks was going to run that swift boat thing, and they ended up pulling it?

9. Okay- there's CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, Fox and in every commercial break there
may be 4 - 6 different corporate sponsors. How would you go about targetting them in a methodical, organized fashion?

I agree with you -- I'm just trying to figure out how you make this work.

What about in addition, a "TURN OFF THE NEWS NIGHT" - to be organized weekly to protest their lack of coverage. That would effect a lot of sponsors at once.

10. Dear Mr. Joosy Froot gum: We the undersigned in the following
petition are going to hold a rally in Hell Michigan on 10-26-05. Since you are a major sponsor of ABZ network, we would like to see some coverage of this rally. If it is not covered, we will no longer purchase your product. Signed: 600,000 names.

Corporate blackmail. The bushies use it all the time!

11. Well the Bushies go one step further
and threaten the station's a)access to the white house and more importantly b)good treatment by the FCC for allowing them to go forth and multiply their licenses ad infinitum

But you didn't like the idea of "If this station Disappears US (anti-war protests and experts who could speak on air) then we will Disappear YOU" - in a methodical, well-publicized way.

12. Works for me.
I lost my satellite over Rita last week down here in the Keys, and the guy can't come until tomorrow. I haven't missed watching any of those news shows, even though there is a lot of news this week. If anything, it's a nice break. If there is an organized effort for a blackout, I'm in. Stay tuned, though. Whoever sets it up will probably get an IRS audit, or an anthrax letter in the mail, or worse. I don't wear my tinfoil hat for nothin'!:)
