Fox News: Counter Rally Shows Support for Troops (ROFL)
Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 01:24 PM by Steve_DeShazer
WASHINGTON Military families and others defending the war in Iraq took their turn Sunday to demonstrate on the National Mall (search), if in much smaller numbers, and counter the massive protest against the war a day earlier.

About 100 people had gathered before a stage set up on the eastern portion of the mall as the noon rally began. A large photo of an American flag served as a backdrop for the stage, and country music blared from speakers while other banners and signs proclaiming support for U.S. troops waved in the breeze.

<snip>

"We're hoping for more folks," said Kristinn Taylor, a leader of FreeRepublic.com  , one of the sponsors. "People have been fired up over the past month, especially military family members, and they want to be heard."

Earlier, Taylor said organizers were prepared for 20,000 people to attend the pro-military rally , billed as a time to honor the troops fighting "the war on terrorism in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere around the world."

35. It is on CSPAN
All they are doing is crying about their dead and beating up Cindy Sheehan at the same time. It really is pathetic, and sad. These people are trying to transfer their grief by lashing out at Cindy, and you can see, in their faces, that it isn't working.

It is horrific, and really painful in a fingernails-on-the-blackboard kind of way, to watch...

14. Just showed a shot of the rally on MSNBC
the flag was the biggest thing about the affair-a wide shot showed a lot of lawn and very few people-100 seems to be an accurate count. The next photos shown were of the rally yesterday, including a long shot down an avenue-obvious even to a casual observer that there were at the very least 100,000 there.

300,000 to 100.

Drop 2 zeros from the 300,000 - you get 3,000.

52. They even tried to recruit me for the "Freedom Walk".
I got three emails at work, the Bush administration tried to get me to attend the pro-neocon rally, which was organized and paid for by the Department of Defense.

I work for the government. Government email resources were used to send out these emails.

The day before the rally I got an email at work saying that traffic around a federal building downtown was likely to be disrupted (on Friday) by anti-war protesters on bikes. Whether there was any basis for this claim, I don't know.
Of course, they don't send out emails about traffic disruptions due to Bush administration activities.

Is it just me, or is this an abuse of the federal government?

How one right-wing billionaire uses his business and media empire to pursue a partisan agenda at the expense of democracy

http://www.americanprogress.org/site/pp.asp?c=biJRJ8OVF&b=122948

"MURDOCH THE NEOCONSERVATIVE: Murdoch owns the Weekly Standard, the neoconservative journal that employed key figures who pushed for war in Iraq. As the American Journalism Review noted, the circulation of Murdoch's Weekly Standard "hovers at only around 65,000. But its voice is much louder than those numbers suggest." Editor Bill Kristol "is particularly adept at steering Washington policy debates by inserting himself and his views into the discussion." In the early weeks of the War on Terror, Kristol "shepherded a letter to President Bush, signed by 40 D.C. opinion-makers, urging a wider military engagement." "

31. I am watching now, and it is BLOWING BACK
They just had two people up, an old geezer who was mad at Cindy, whose kid had died at the PGon, and he was boohooing...it was sad to see how he is transferring his grief to that Gold Star mother, as if that will make it go away, and it ain't working.

These tales of dead children, and more are coming up, just make you wonder WTF the POINT is of this stupid war. They are trying to do the stiff upper lip, noble cause meme, but all they sound like is people in deep pain who are trying, flailing and failing desperately, to find a way to justify a crushing loss.

I know these people are mindless numbskulls, but one cannot help but feel sorry for them, more than anything else...they are just so ... pathetic.

This is such a lame effort, not something to really laugh at--stupid, sad, people, desperately trying to explain the loss of a loved one, and coming up with watery, stale gruel.

86. So my question for them is
if they felt all that pain why do they want another mother and father and sister and brother to feel it? Whether it's Americans, British or Iraqi's? Pain is pain no matter who you are. So why do they want others to feel that? Why do they want blood on their hands? I'm sure many of them there are probably proclaiming to be Christians but yet Jesus himself said to "love thy neighbor" and those Ten Commandments they want up everywhere states "thou shalt not kill." That commandment doesn't say you can kill if someone kills you. It's pretty clear. They think they can attack back evil with evil but it never works that way.

43. It's surprising that the Freepers couldn't round up a few more to support
1. The neo-Trotskyite vision of perpetual war where the US seeks to establish global military hegemony as the world's sole policeman-dictator,

2. The idea that death of innocent Iraqi children as acceptable collateral damage,

3. Wholehearted acceptance of the abuses at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo as a means of breaking the will of Iraqis and Afghans (including children) who have been detained for merely being in the vicinity of Iraqi and Afghan nationalist resistance attacks,

4. Use of the Iraq invasion as the justification for establishing permanent military bases in the Middle East, and

5. The Iraq and Afghan reconstructions as a windfall for Halliburton.

53. Did anyone hear that guy who made a quote from "Lenin or Lennon"?
I forget the quote because I was too curious as to who he was referring to. Certainly he wouldn't be referring to John Lennon, that would be sacrilegious. But Vladimir Lenin, the Russian Revolutionary whom I learned about in school and forgot about until today?

Am I missing another Lennon or Lenin or perhaps he was saying Lemon and in Jack Lemon and the Odd Couple?

I guess I should have found a pencil and written down the quote.

58. Wow, even Fox can't inflate the numbers
Don't they know the Military Families were at the Anti-War rally yesterday?

Now, if Fox is really fair and balanced, how much coverage did they give to the huge rally in DC yesterday, and in SF and the one in Iraq and those in Europe? I would all day coverage would be in order!

What's really astonishing about the 'patriotcic freepers' is how they are being used by wealthy foreigners with an agenda. Like Rupert Murdoch, and the Saudis eg, not to mention the Rev. Moon, to name but a few. They are such patsies, no wonder Americans have a reputation for being childish and naive!!

Still, I at least have some respect for Kristinn. I remember when all the other Freeps were put in a corner by one of their favorite WH press corps 'reporters', he went out with three other freeps to support the now infamous, male escort, fake reporter, Jimmy/Jeff. At least he's loyal.

And wasn't it Kristinn who tried to take away the offensive sign from a fellow freeper and got punched for his efforts? I think the man has some principles, even though he is so wrong ~ the rest of them just wait for memos to arrive in their email boxes before they decide what they are supposed to do. Maybe one day he'll realize he's on the wrong side.

60. What does 1,024 to 1 look like?
1,024 to 1 is an underestimate of the ratio of those attending (I'm pretty sure it was significantly more than that). This is what 1,024 to 1 looks like:

66. I love how Fox calls it support for troops. It's support for B*'s war...
not for the troops. These people don't care about the troops. We care much more about the individual person in the military than the right ever has or ever will. I wish that more people in the military would believe that.

68. Was out to lunch today, and in the corners of the restaurant..,.
TV's were showing CNN.
Too much talking going on in the restaurant to actually HEAR...but captions and running copy supplied the story lines.

They showed speakers under the header "Pro-War Rally" and then they pushed over to shots of OUR anti-war rally, and LEFT THE PRO-WAR HEADER.

They did this 3 TIMES while I sat there!

Subtle propaganda.

It was pretty funny. They were outnumbered by the cops. I wondered if they needed a police escort to go to the portapotties.

97. But our local newsradio covered them "equally"
Never mentioned the protests with mentioning "and counter-protests". For those who get most of their news this way, it would seem as if there were two equal-size groups there.

And we're a solid blue city, but our newsradio station is owned by Viacom, so why am I surprised.

I attended and can tell you NO msm was there when I arrived (2 hrs late) at 2:30pm. The crowd was diverse and anti-Bush and families and the best of our intelligent citizens. PS the police were photographing completely peaceful protestors for no legal reason. Anyone say Neo-Nazis?

Yet these assholes get to run the agenda of our country and make foolhardy decisions (which they get away with). The MSM grants them immunity from reproach and any decent is covered up and shouted down.

Foxnews will be remembered as Fascistnews.
