Telling them they have to stay for another 'tour', not supplying proper armor, making them witness (and sometimes accesory)to torture, drawing targets on their backs, not allowing Louisiana soldiers to come home after hurricane and take care of families......as opposed to saying "you're all coming home next week". Which is better for morale?

screen names are here on DU? The most telling picture is the one where Jan would be; this is from the very back of the 'group' and you can see the sectioned off part where some people were corraled in cowpens. There are about 30 (being generous) behind the pens and about 30 each inside the 2 pens and the goldstars who sat on the chairs. And how many of those in the crowds were paraded onto the stage to speak? What percentage of the 'crowd' was there because they had a speaking part in the production? And, I'll go back and look, but yahoo (who didn't have a news blurb on their front page for the longest time yesterday about our rally) is saying they had 400.

Here's link:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050925/ap_on_re_us/war_rally

About 400 people gathered near a stage on an eastern segment of the mall, a large patchwork American flag serving as a backdrop. Amid banners and signs proclaiming support for U.S. troops, several speakers hailed the effort to bring democracy to Iraq and
Afghanistan and denounced those who protest it.

35. MSM was reporting 100s of them yesterday but I didn't see that many
I counted 2 at the beginning of the rally, then 2 more and then about 15 on the sides of the street.

All in all, I saw about 20 and I was looking for them. I'm not saying that there might not have been about 200 there along the entire march route but they were spread pretty thin and they were pretty darn quiet.

DC is the largest city I've ever been to and I was a bit of a bumpkin but it was great. I had a clan of DUers to guide me and it was just wonderful. I hovered between tears, laughter, joy and amazement the whole time. I wish it could have gone on forever. Alas, I had to leave after the march on Sat. to drive back to North Carolina.

SILENT MAJORITY.

Yeah, right--that's the line Nixon used before he threw in the towel.

The shark has been jumped, folks, the Potemkin Village has collapsed.

Took way too long, and there's still work to do, but they have been revealed at long last, and in EXCRUICIATING detail, for what they are--a bunch of mindless, stupid, nitwits. Sad, pathetic people.

They're like people who have been the victims of a con artist, but are too ashamed to report that they have been fooled to the police; so they carry on as though everything is just fine!

Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 04:09 PM by electron_blue
Their signs are about supporting the troops, supporting military families, supporting people over there.

Even they are not bold enough to make signs saying they support the *reason* behind all the sacrifices, suffering and death of the troops and their families.

They can't shake loose of this idea that many of our troops were killed or injured based on lies, or at best - reasons that no longer exist. They can't stand to think their friends/family members died in vain. It's a tough spot to be in - not all of them are going to make the break from that.

eta: I just have to howl at the pics used on CNN's website about the "counter-rally". They used pics from the "peace" rally yesterday!! They were probably too embarrassed to show how few people showed up for the "war" rally. LOL!

44. I wonder if some parents
whose children died believe the war is a good cause and keep believing because they MUST. It must feel better to believe your child died for an honorable cause. If you accepted that it was a pack of lies the pain would be too much. They might be easy to "use" because the louder they declare the rightness of the war and the more they can surround themselves with others who believe it the less chance there is that the truth will set in. It hurts to lose illusions and your child.

stupidity...that is why con artists are still around and profiting handsomely. Same goes for rape victims, it's embarrassing. And it shouldn't be, but the judgmental attitudes of rightwing type people is pervasive...blame the victim.
So it's a vicious circle.

52. Every one of your points is 100% ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.
Unfortunately there is a persistent willing ignorance and naivate that persists amongst members of the freeper/evangelical christian community.

I simply don't get it. They completely ignore the facts that are staring them in the face and would rather resort to believing the lies * spouts out to them on a daily basis. I swear, if Bush rounded up all these people, threw them in concentration camps, and fed them rat poison, they'd not only eat the poison, they'd thank Bush for giving it to them and eat it believing they are doing their fearless leader a service.

It is akin to trying to convince your best friend that they are in a cult. They refuse to listen, and worse, they scoff at you and deny their cult membership to the HILT. The cult is dangerous and you know that. But trying to make them see this is very, very difficult.

Scary. I hope more people wake up.

The only reason I knew about this pathetic exercise is because I heard about it on the lamestream news.

Most of the march information on SAT I got from this forum, but that did not seem to deter attendance.

It just is hard to sell a BAD idea. And when you couple it with bad execution, bad speakers, bad concepts, and...my EARS, MY EARS!!!!...profoundly BAD MUSIC, it is no wonder people would rather stay home and watch football!!!
