Well well well, has CNN finally seen the light????
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Support for U.S. troops fighting abroad mixed with anger toward anti-war demonstrators at home as hundreds of people, far fewer than organizers had expected, rallied Sunday on the National Mall just a day after tens of thousands protested against the war in Iraq.

"No matter what your ideals are, our sons and daughters are fighting for our freedom," said Marilyn Faatz, who drove from New Jersey to attend the rally. "We are making a mockery out of this. And we need to stand united, but we are not."

1. Maybe if those idiots had shown us they could put their political
differences aside in a time of peace and had stood with us in the 90s, I'd give a damn.

2. If they'd seen the light, they wouldn't be referring to yesterday as
tens of thousands, but rather hundreds of thousands.

6. your right in that, but we cant have EVERYTHING we ask for. Im
satisfied with them simply admitting the turn out for the pro war rally was PATHETIC. Its a small victory, I know, but still.

4. The troops are NOT fighting for our freedom.
We have our freedom, no one took it from us (except by attrition through the Patriot Act). You cannot fight for something which you already have and which no one is threatening.

These people would be better served by saying they're fighting for our security, but they're so intent on sticking to nonsense talking points that they just can't see the forest for the trees.

"Tens of thousands" is an okay description, but "somewhere close to 200,000" would have been more appropriate. From what I saw of the pics, it looked like a quarter of a million. If only those who wanted to attend could have attended, it would have been in the millions.

11. Wow.
I saw a good aerial view pic of about 200,000.

Interesting, last night I was thinking about the song Woodstock, "By the time we got to Woodstock, we were half a million strong." And I was wondering if so many people made it to Woodstock, surely that many could make it to an anti-Iraq War, anti-bush event.

That's wonderful, thanks for the update.

8. Question about crowd-counting?
To the Techies - can experts who analyze photos tell from an arial view of a crowd, like the pic that was on Yahoo, a very ACCURATE count of how many people are in a given location?

13. Can't answer your question
but as someone who use to live near DC and attended many a rally the count is always an issue. The park police seem to undercount/report at least by half - I read an article yesterday that quoted DC police that said the goal was 100K and he believed they reached it - to me that says it was AT LEAST 200K

12. I agree
we need to quit rejoicing everytime they throw us a bone.

They just do that because they dont want us to leave; we keep hanging around hoping they will give us more, but their job is to change our minds.

10. Approximately 400? 400!?!
That's all the Freeptards could come up with? That and a few grieving widows who need to find SOME meaning in the (otherwise pointless) deaths of their loved ones?

I did like the mention of the sign saying "Arrest the Traitors."

I couldn't agree more.

. . . and I have a little list.

15. freedom
To me, what is so strange is this paragraph:

"No matter what your ideals are, our sons and daughters are fighting for our freedom," said Marilyn Faatz, who drove from New Jersey to attend the rally. "We are making a mockery out of this. And we need to stand united, but we are not."

If people are fighting for freedom, then certainly part of freedom is the right of dissent!!

I guess they only support freedom if you agree with their point of view. That's quite a limited view point!

17. She's wrong, we ARE standing united!
We're standing united against the policies of a criminal administration who started a war on a pack of lies. We're standing united against our government that put our servicemen and women in harms way to settle an Oedipal grudge and to enrich the military industrial complex. WE STAND UNITED! :patriot:

Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 06:56 PM by Whoa_Nelly
they ain't seen the light.

Last night, when Brown was showing "Tomorrow's Headlines", he made not of the Anti-War march/rally saying that it was in the news, but hey! Too bad we couldn't cover it because Rita was really much more important and too bad but that;s the way it goes.

Also, Paula Zahn could be muzzled occasionally.
