Bush's Job Approval at a Dismal 45% for Third Straight Day at Rasmussen
Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 07:27 PM by louis c
The Republican pollster, Scott Rasmussen even has President bush at his lowest level of his Presidency for three consecutive days, 45%. With 54% disapproval. In addition, consumer confidence is at its lowest level since the aftermath of 9/11. It seems that even the right wing is starting to "get it."

Why this is significant is that if Bush's numbers continue to tumble, even with those who tend to prop him up, the Rupkes will run for the hills as the next election cycle approaches.

On the horizon is only bad news for the country and the Bush administration. Iraq will be a disaster by devolving into civil war as the vote on the Constitution is taken next month. The economy is in shambles and the general public will really feel the pain as they heat their homes this winter. Once the people of this country focus on that and the hurricane season subsides, I predict that these numbers will by fondly remembered by the Bush supporters, if you will be able to find any by then.

Although it is little comfort for us to say "I told you so", because our asses are in the same boat, it seems a real political disaster awaits the Repukes 13 months from now.

1. "Dismal" 45% that's almost half the country that approves of this bitch
But I call bullshit, this must the approval rating of traditionally Republican areas mostly.

Rasmussen constantly shades his numbers toward Bush. He publicly admits he is a "Republican pollster."

If his numbers are minus 9% for President Asshole, you can bet that they are even lower than that.

Politicians around the country account for this bias, so if they drop at rasmussen to 40%, you can bet that panic will set in.

14. When is it easier to get Congressional support. . .
Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 08:00 PM by Journeyman
neidermeyer, when a President has 60% approval ratings or when he's at 40%? When a Congresscritter runs for re-election, is it better for him to run as a friend of an unpopular President, or as a buddy of a popular executive? And when a President appeals to the People, do they rally behind the guy they thinks a schmuck, or do they prefer someone they respect?

No, louis c isn't so naive as to believe George W. can gain a third term, but he's politcally savvy enough to realize when a second term President becomes a lame duck.

Oh, and on edit, neidermeyer, I have to point out the obvious: low poll numbers are a factor in determining when a President no longer commands political respect.

17. Thank you
I appreciate your grasp of my point.

You have explained my position to the letter.

If the election of 2004 was the very last that we would have in this country, then poll numbers would be irrelevant. But I'm betting we may have one or two more, and one of these days, they may even count the votes correctly.

11. Good try, louis c, but many DUers see only what they want to see. . .
and like Paul Simon's Boxer, they disregard the rest. Thus, everyone with 1000 posts on these boards should know Rasmussen's bias, yet they persist in their disbelief at the numbers and insistence that Rasmussen "must be wrong."

20. I hope that you understand
that I post these numbers hoping that the point that Rasmussen is the poll of choice for the Repukes.

When he is putting up 'minus 9%" for President asshole, that means his base is cracking.

I know there are polls with Bush at minus 17%, but the other side will point to the left leaning bias in these polls.

When Rasmussen is spiraling downward for the moron-in-chief, it's as if your own wife stands against you in an argument. You know, as if to say, "I love you honey, but you appear to mistaken". At that point, you know all is lost.

21. Agree with you Louis C. Rasmussen is the Republican feel good poll
because it's always much higher than the other polls. If Rasmussen ever does start to hit 40% consistently, it's a damn good indicator that the Republican base is compromised.

Bush Ratings Should Worry Hill GOP
By Charlie Cook
© National Journal
September 17, 2005

President Bush's job-approval ratings have dropped so low that he could become a real political liability for his party. Ranging from 38 to 46 percent, those ratings are the lowest of his presidency. And they are much closer to those of President Nixon at this point in his second term than they are to President Reagan's or President Clinton's. What should be especially worrisome to GOP strategists is that some 40 percent of the electorate strongly disapproves of Bush's performance.

The GOP ought to worry that Bush might be like our newly beloved Washington Nationals: amazingly strong for the first half of the season, winning a disproportionate share of close games -- but in the second half losing the kind of games that had been breaking their way. Many things broke Bush's way in his first four years, but he has hardly been able to buy a break since winning re-election.

If Bush's ratings remain dismal, could his unpopularity cost the Republican Party its majorities in the House and the Senate?
