OUR insurance is going up.WE don't live in hurricane alley!
The woman we spoke to told us that our insurance tripled "due to the storms"

Why should we pay for this? I am so f-n pissed. I'm not interested in "helping out" rich people who chose to build there. THEY should rebuild their city. And since they made their money off the backs of poor people, the poor should have first dibs on the jobs and be paid an ACL-CIO approved wage.

1. It does that after major catastrophes that costs the insurance industry

unreasonable pay outs. Like 9-11, Katrina, malpractice lawsuits, a fenderbender between a 67 volkswagon and a child's toy tractor... pretty much anything they can get away with.

2. I dropped my auto collision and insurance that I don't need
All sorts of insurance are going to have premium hikes after this huge loss.

3. I'm not sure you understand what insurance is and how it works
Everybody pays a little so that the few who suffer catastrophically won't pay for their loss individually. Otherwise, there would be no reason to have insurance if you had to pay for loss out of your pocket anyway.

6. Yes but perhaps
we should have the right to pick what group we belong in. For ex.

1) Earthquake group
2) Tornado group
3) Huriccane group
4) None of the Above

Is that such a bad thing???

4. Insurance went up 100% after H. Andrew
Of course, the biggest hit goes to those who are trying to rebuild their lives... but, even here in the Midwest, we feel the burn.

Normally, I wouldn't feel too cross about it. In many ways I view it as a 'necessary evil' for civilized life. Then I hear about claims being refused by middle class people in the hurricane stricken areas and I get royally angry. How dare they refuse to pay these people?

I bet many of them are a lot like my family. We have paid insurance premiums for years now... never had claim. Not one. We still continue to carry the insurance on the (Goddess forbid) chance something horrible would happen. But what good is it if the insurance company can just stamp claim denied?

5. Our insurance co. cancelled us after 25 years.
We had the same company for auto and homeowner's insurance -- never had a claim. They decided they didn't want to do business in FL anymore and no one else would write new homeowner's policies. So we ended up in the pool (Citizens). Our rates more than doubled because they're not allowed to compete with the other companies and are required to charge more than the most expensive company. And there's a long list of things they won't pay for (like mold remediation). We didn't have any trouble getting car insurance, but the rates go up constantly to pay for all the uninsured motorists and everyone else's accidents. I've never even had so much as a parking ticket since I got my license 32 years ago, but I still pay. The insurance industry is crooked and there's nothing we can do but bend over and take it.
