Why can't we organize protests in every major city at once?

I really wish we could do this, so everyone would have the opportunity to participate. We would have more people participating anyway I think if people could just take a short trip to the nearest city. I wanted to go down to Crawford for Cindy's protest last month, and I wanted to go to DC this past weekend, but both of those events were 1,000+ miles away from where I live. I can't really afford to travel that far with gas prices at nearly $3/gal. and hotel rooms are pricey too.

If there was a protest location that I wouldn't have to travel too far to get to, then I'd be game. That's why I was just wondering how hard it would be to organize nationwide protests. Plus, I really think it would get the freepers going.

1. Good question...

I had the same thoughts myself. But most of the true organizers will tend to attend the bigger national events. It requires commitment from all of us to go when we can go or to stay behind and be the ones who will be responsible to organize our local events.

Yesterday, there were coinciding events in other major cities. How cool would it have been for even a few people to stand on a street corner or in another public place with signs opposing the war in every city/town in America?

We must raise awareness within our own neighborhoods. So many people I talked to yesterday had NO idea what was going on in DC...they just live in their damn bubble.

So let this be a lesson to us all. We must act locally as well as nationally.

2. I'm thinking the same thing

The media could brush aside a big march in DC, because "they are always having big marches in DC". But what if there were a protest rally/public education rally in every state? It would grab local attention at least, and could lead to some very interesting exchanges in the LTTE departments of papers. And it doesn't have to be a big city. One was held in Jasper AR (population around 350)-I went to Fayetteville on business, and was shocked and disappointed to find there wasn't one there. I'd like to see a weekened designated when a person wouldn't have to drive over 100 miles to get to a protest.

My parents took me to them - I would be able to make it there no question.
