Give me shelter from the storm..... pic from my flight.
Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 08:07 PM by 4MoronicYears
First off, I'd like to thank the people in the camper next to us whose dog could with no exaggeration bark ALL DAY LONG. A yappy little woosy sort of bark... every 3 or 4 seconds.... truly amazing set of vocal chords...

Second, I'd like to thank the repairpersons who were able to get the power back on SEVERAL times.... even with blowing transformers and all....

Third, I'd like to thank the motorhome full of Homeland Security folks from NY who were so polite and sociable... one of which sort of blew my wife off when she inquired about the power situation on our strip...

Fourth I'd like to thank the people who ran the transits and levels for the drainage that allowed the full hookup to backup around our camper and the lower bathrooms.... not nice...

Fifth, I'd like to thank the twisters for going around our little camper for the most part, though it did rock and roll sort of badly ALL NIGHT LONG on Saturday night... I slept not....

Last of all, I'd like to thank the powers that be for not making the hurricane a killer storm.... bad as it was, and for not flooding my yard....

Pic of the Mississippi where we stayed.... nothing like making a reservation to be with a storm once it moves inland...

1. Where were you?
Are you safe back at home now?

This reminded me of our family's camping trip in hell one Memorial Day weekend. We found a gorgeous spot close to the lake. We went to sleep while it rained lightly and we were all dreaming about fishing for trout for breakfast in the morning. We had three tents, all brand new and all equipped with state of the art rain flies. Then we woke up at 4am and discovered that our tents were IN the lake. It had rained so much that the level of the lake had risen and a park ranger was trying to rescue us. FOUR adults and none of us had woken up during the storm. The ranger thought we were nuts to put our tents so close to the lake. He also was convinced we had been drinking to have slept so soundly. But we were just tired. LOL We didn't go camping again for a couple years after that.

I'm sure it wasn't as bad as your experience though.

3. Oh, I can soooo relate to the yapping dog.
Please, give me a woofer over a yapper any day.

On the upside, despite the Universe plinking you on the head regularly, you survived with your sanity and your sense of humor intact ;)

5. Yet more shelter from the storm......
Dylan.... an American treasure.

'Twas in another lifetime, one of toil and blood
When blackness was a virtue and the road was full of mud
I came in from the wilderness, a creature void of form.
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

And if I pass this way again, you can rest assured
I'll always do my best for her, on that I give my word
In a world of steel-eyed death, and men who are fighting to be warm.
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Not a word was spoke between us, there was little risk involved
Everything up to that point had been left unresolved.
Try imagining a place where it's always safe and warm.
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

I was burned out from exhaustion, buried in the hail,
Poisoned in the bushes an' blown out on the trail,
Hunted like a crocodile, ravaged in the corn.
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Suddenly I turned around and she was standin' there
With silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair.
She walked up to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns.
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Now there's a wall between us, somethin' there's been lost
I took too much for granted, got my signals crossed.
Just to think that it all began on a long-forgotten morn.
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Well, the deputy walks on hard nails and the preacher rides a mount
But nothing really matters much, it's doom alone that counts
And the one-eyed undertaker, he blows a futile horn.
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

I've heard newborn babies wailin' like a mournin' dove
And old men with broken teeth stranded without love.
Do I understand your question, man, is it hopeless and forlorn?
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

In a little hilltop village, they gambled for my clothes
I bargained for salvation an' they gave me a lethal dose.
I offered up my innocence and got repaid with scorn.
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Well, I'm livin' in a foreign country but I'm bound to cross the line
Beauty walks a razor's edge, someday I'll make it mine.
If I could only turn back the clock to when God and her were born.
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."
