Just got XM for access to Air America. Are there different focuses for...
the different shows, or are they all about the same things -- just different personalities' takes on the issues of the day? If you listen to Air America, who do you consider to be most worth listening to? (Of course, they're probably all wonderful, but I can't listen all of the time, so I'd just like some input on your preferences.)

Thanks for any advise you can offer.

3. I was listening to her the other day, and she was really dissing...
Air America. Any idea why would she do that? She said something like something was so bad that it even made working for Air America look good, which was pretty bad, or something close to that. I was really surprised.

17. I think she feels betrayed by AAR
Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 10:57 PM by gort
A lot of stations refuse to run her show live or at all because of the back-stabbing deal that was made with Jones Radio's Ed Schultz.

Schultz's show is produced by Democracy Radio and is a pay-for-play show. That means local affiliates get paid to run his show so it's easy money and means no risk for local programmers.

AAR agreed to let stations carry Ed Schilltz's show in order to get in certain large market cities.

Randi has stated on her show that it was agreed that she would have drive time and follow Al Franken's noon-time show.

I think that AAR has shown a lack of loyalty by not standing up for Randi. AAR made the mistake of putting all their money behind the Hem-and-Hah-er-ra-rer-Al Franken. Now, he's screwing them by hinting at running for the US Senate.

I hope that Thom Hartmann's recent entry into the schedule will mean that he will be the new star of AAR and we will finally be rid of Franken and his annoying habit of laughing at his own jokes.

20. AMEN! And that is why...
...I go out of my way for Randi! Wasn't it HER who went to DC, TWICE, to try to get Senators to help out syndicating liberal talkers WAY before AAR was even THOUGHT OF?! And FUKU Ed Shitz...yeah, he calls Randi "Radio Whore" but HE is the one who's show is PAY TO PLAY! Just say NO to repukes in lib clothing!

21. I second that, Lu.
You don't suppose that Schultz is purposely trashing Randi to try and bring down AAR, do you?

2. It seems to me
that there is something for everyone. Some are more center left than I but I still enjoy them. Some get mad and scream and rant and I also like them. I think that is the success of the setup. Sometimes I want to shake some of them for being behind(they must not read DU) or for not seeing what I think they should be seeing but if you look at it through the eyes of people who do not live on DU I think it is a good thing.

I got mine about 4 months ago and I love it. Have fun.

8. I'm already enjoying it so much. I agree that sometimes I know more...
than they do. A caller was on Randi's show on Friday, and he told her about the B* administration letting Saudi Arabia off the hook about slavery. She wasn't aware of it. I read this in my daily newspaper that morning, and I saw it on DU. That surprised me!

4. On AAR it has to be Randi Rhodes
She isn't afraid to rip apart neocons. But Malloy is a good one also. In my opinion, Morning Sedition basically sucks. If you get Jones syndication, Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz are both very good, although very different.

11. I'm not sure what Jones syndication is. Is this outside of XM?
Would it be if I were getting it through a local radio channel instead of on XM? (Are they like Clear Channel? (i.e., do they own radio stations?))

Thanks for the information, Bluzmann57.

6. I try not to miss...
Al Franken... I know he's got his quirks, but I do like him and especially his regular guests like David Brock (from MediaMatters), Christy Harvey (of The Center for American Progress), Joe Conason, Jonathan Alter, & David Sirota.

I just started listening to some Laura Flanders too and mostly like what she says. She's a very different personality than Randi Rhodes, and takes a much calmer approach to making her points.

And I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I've also been catching bits of Jerry Springer (yes, THE Jerry Springer) and have found him to be quite informative. (I still have a ways to go before I forgive him for the "NRA card carrying loonies-who-want-to-nuke-whales-for-Jesus" shows he used to have, but I'm willing to give him a second chance.)

And one last one -- Ring of Fire with hosts Bobby Kennedy Jr. and Mike Papantonio seem to address good issues with interesting guests.

Here's the Air America link to check on other shows & schedules:
http://www.airamericaradio.com/

(And no, I don't work for Air America; I just don't watch tv anymore and rely entirely on Air America, the internet, & sometimes NPR for my news.)

13. Thank you, madame defarge. I listened to Jerry Springer recently...
and he kept going out of his way to say that he doesn't hate B* and that B* isn't a bad person, etc. It was as though he were running for office and didn't want his opponent to be able to use it against him. I think that he was trying to come across as reasonable, but he just kept p*ssing me off when he said it.

I get Sundance on cable, and Al Franken's on there. I really like his show also.

Thanks again!

in that order.

Thom Hartmann is recently syndicated thru AAR, but I don't know if he's in the XM lineup.

If so, I didn't know that.

are not AAR (Colmes...?).

18. AAR XM Schedule:
http://www.xmradio.com/programming/channel_page.jsp?ch=167

Ed Schultz was recently moved to another XM station (Ask! I think) so now Rhodes's show is on XM in its entirety.

Colmes is not an AAR personality per se, but his show airs on AAR. XM recently switched its "Radio Left" station to Air America, and Colmes's presence on the station is probably a holdover of the previous format (as was Schultz).

12. My XM lineup ...
Is morning sedition - VERY ecletic show that I find to be incredibly wanting in relation to political impact ... Some love it, I don't get it ...

Jerry Spinger - A complete bleeding heart who is the best of the regulars in terms of letting callers say their piece, but not very fullfilling for anyone with a real appetite for liberal politics ...

Franken - I like him a lot ... He is SHARP as a tack, and is SO important in his taking on the big dog media conservative whores ...As someone else noted, he has great regulars ... He does get off track fairly easily, and there are shows where he is hard to listen to, but Franken is the big dog ...

Rhodes - I like her politics a lot, and she is important too ... The Ds have to be bullies to get back into the game, and she is important ... I find her to be very well researched on most occassions ... But, she is hard to listen to ... She is a pig, and I mean it, she freakin burps on air, and she is REALLY bad about letting callers talk ... However, again, she is front runner for the movement, and is really well connected with politicians who she can get on the air ...

Seder and Garafalo - I like them plenty ... They are angry and take the battle to the conservatives ...

Ed Shultz was on for a while but was bumped ... Ed is a solid, and an important crossover kind of guy ...

Colmes should be shot ...

figure out how things work. I haven't been able to hear much of Garafalo because she's been off doing the West Wing stuff, but I'm really looking forward to when she's back.

19. al and Randi
Al has more guests with full backgrounds on whatever the topic, Randi has articulate rage to make you cheer. Springer is a repetitive hack as far as I am concerned. Annoys me and I turn to something else. Wish they would move or dump him .
