1. There were a lot of people there.

I was expecting the diebold machines but we just had the punch cards.

2. Very quiet but I went mid day.

I suspect it will be packed later in the day when folks get off work and back from school. My polling place is in the UC Berkeley Graduate student housing community center. Should be hopping when the students return from class.

3. Yes, pretty packed

I had to wait a short time to get a booth.

Caveat: Many local precincts including my usual one were consolidated into a few larger ones for just this election. Still, I was surprised at the number of people voting.

Pleasantly surprised? I can't answer that. San Diego is a Republican stronghold.

4. I was in line for 20 mins

they consolidated polling places. But it was smooth: no hanging chads, got my sticker. It was cool.

5. I've been voting at the same polling place for

20 years, and there were about 10 people in line in front of me at 8:15 this morning. That's a few more than normal. But, there were only three precinct workers, so the line was moving very slowly. This may be a problem this evening if things back up at closing time.

And, off topic, a very pro-Arnold woman at work admitted today that she's not even registered to vote. I have a feeling that's the case with many of his supporters. They think it would be cool to have a movie star governor, but couldn't get it together to register to actually vote for the guy. Bunch of morons. LOL

6. Fine in the SF Mission district

Went at 8am and only had to wait about 10 minutes. Lot of people came in after me though. Took me forever to find Bustamante among all those names!

7. Went around noon

Thought it would be packed with people on lunch breaks.

Sad to say we got in and out in five minutes. We used the fill in ballot.

8. Good turnout at my voting location here in SF

People had to line up. We (my partner and I) saw lots of people walking from all areas of the neighborhood to go vote. I noticed a good number of signatures in the voter book. Didn't hear anyone complain about not being on the rolls.

9. Longer lines than usual

at my polling place in San Jose. I went around 7:15 which is my usual time to vote. The line was at least as long as in the last presidential vote. I remember just walking right in for most non-presidential elections.

Punch cards, checked my chads. There was only one other person voting at the school when I was there (noon).

11. Lots of retirees...but that's to be expected

Everyone in my neighborhood in Fremont is retired, and their kids are my age (homes built in the 1970's...)

Talking with all of my neighbors, even the most die-hard Repubs are against the recall. As one Korean-war vet put it:

"This whole thing is childish and the California Republicans are acting like a bunch of babies! I expect better behavior than that!"

And this guy was a Repub's Repub! (tho he wasn't really for Iraq or the tax cuts...)

Then again, I just went about an hour ago. My polling place is in a residential area, so it'll be busy later.

We had the Diebold machines. Looking at the makeup of my polling place, Arnie will be lucky to get 2% of our vote. Heck, even my marginally right leaning (and unfortunately registered Pub) hubby voted No/Cruz. No way he was voting for someone who disrespects women like that, he said.

14. I went with my dad this morning

in South Pasadena. Right about 7:30 am. I'd say maybe 20 people in line. I couldn't really tell what the consensus was on the voting, but I did get a sticker! That made me happy :)

19. I was third in line at 7 a.m. when the polls opened.

My wife was first. But when we left, the place was full. Haven't seen that much of an early turnout in many years. Our precinct votes in a church, and it always strikes me as a violation of church and state, but I guess the rent is cheap.

21. Pretty empty in San Francisco

Downtown - no line, 1 or 2 empty booths (out of maybe 6). If the counter on the scanner was right, I was voter 168 at 11:30 a.m.

Of course, it wasn't lunch and it's not a very residential area.
