Rep. John Conyers: Yesterday's Washington Peace Rally

Yesterday's peace rally was uplifting and invigorating. People traveled from places all across the country to prevail upon their leaders to find a peaceful end to the American engagement in Iraq. Many people attending expressed concern about the lack of answers to the Downing Street Minutes and hope that the administration would be held accountable for its role in the Valerie Plame outing.

Cindy Sheehan, of course, played a central role in the rally and the march. A volunteer of mine shared with her over 180 letters that visitors to my website wrote to her. Cindy was also my guest at the Congressional Black Caucus annual awards dinner.

The Washington, DC Chief of Police estimated that 150,000 attended the events. There were no more than 200 counter-protestors. The overwhelming feeling shared by those who came was that this was just the beginning of a movement that is steadily gaining momentum. For those unable to attend, a volunteer has posted pictures of the events as a slideshow, or on a single page.

Edit: added link, a few of the pictures (but you need to click on the link to the rest, including the freepers).

5. This is why it is important to support Conyers posts
Many DU'ers apparently do not know of the Conyers group and/or they are not reading his blog.

Although posted in the GDP forum, a poster made a misinformed statement that Rep. Cynthia McKinney was the only Congressperson in attendance at the DC rally. See http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4881170&mesg_id=4881170

See reply #54.

Sheesh!

Here is where one who was. Where's the DU support for Rep. Conyers?

Reps. John Conyers and Barbara Lee - see http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4881170&mesg_id=4883439 - not only attended but blogged and posted about it in his/her online forum/Congressional website.
