Is anyone else disgusted and fearful of the CA Recall coverage? CNN/MSNBC?
I'm looking today, from the East Coast and realizing that Californians are three hours behind me, but that as early as 9:00 a.m. (est) CNN/MSNBC/CNBC had crews out in CA talking to "men/women on the street" and they were showing all AUHNOLD ALL THE TIME...movements as if he was THE ONLY CANDIDATE running in CA!

Checking in and out all day today, my impression hasn't changed. The coverage was slanted to make it seem that AUHNOLD was running for President of California. (That's what my impression is)

If the California "Recall" is a forerunner to what ELECTION 2004 is going to be in the US...I fear for our Country!

I FEAR FOR AMERICA! This is being treated like the "Super Bowl" Hype.....where everything is a GAME to these "Media People" and they want to "drag out" results with "hanging chads and touch tone screens" getting the focus for their MEDIA $$$'s which is what they did in Florida in 2000!

The Cables don't care about America or "WE" the People, they only care about ratings and the "Sports Thing."

So, Like CA....Election 2004 is going to be about GAMING? About HORSE RACING?

1. That sucks becuase I haven't talk to anyone yet that supports Arnold.
Edited on Tue Oct-07-03 04:40 PM by section321
I didn't hear anything but derision in the voting line.

Of course I tend to avoid the wingers....

Most people I talk to think he's a joke and they're on to the fact that he won't discuss the issues.

2. Luckily a lot of people still at work
so they won't see this crap. But yes, the main monster we have to fight is the right wing media. I say we start now!!!!!

7. They'd have to amend the constitution for that to happen

12. I realize that.
And I am sure that Karl Rove already has a plan to deal with that.

8. We'll need a Constitutional amendment first...
... and I doubt that will happen.

4. The media wants Arnold to win
He'll be big news all the time and will increase their ratings. And if California goes totally down the tubes, well that'll be a big story too.

17. They have already selected him
and all that's left is "selling us" a plausible win.

5. I'm in Cali, and I haven't actually been watching any news...
... but what I'm hearing has be disturbed and disgusted.

The impact of this kind of coverage is worse than if they just said they had exit poll data showing Yes/Arnold winning. For some reason exit poll data is off limits, but this kinda hype isn't.

Dry run for next year - just testing us for how dumb we are
And since we have no way to get back at them, they'll decide those results too!
(And, no, I can't watch!)

10. I'm not watching
but from what it sounds like, I'm glad I'm not!

Those channels don't have high ratings anyway. They get, what, 3-4 million nationwide? I don't think they have as much as people think.

13. My email to CNN....
Here's the text:

I am appaled by your coverage of the recall election. Its all Arnold all the time. Your obviously pushing this candidate, but I'm not sure why. He has refused to address the issues. He has a seriously problem in the way he treats women, and yet there his picture is on the front page of the web site.

I hear from friends that are watching the coverage on TV that its even worse their.

Biased, lame coverage is how we ended up in Iraq. If the press had done its job and asked questions earlier we may have avoided that quagmire.

Please, present a more balanced view of this election. I have yet to talk to someone today that supports Arnold.

I expected better from CNN.

================================

oops... guess I should have proofread it before I sent it.

14. There should be Media BLACK OUT on Election Day! No commentary/Nothing!
Edited on Tue Oct-07-03 05:38 PM by KoKo01
We need to get "cracking on this right now!" This Media Hype seemed like Voter Tampering to me! It's definitely manipulation. Those folks who watched the Cables in CA today...got the impression that "AHNOLD" was the only person running and you "better get on the bandwagon....cause the train is leaving..!"

This has to be stopped. And, we got fair warning today! IMHO.
