Your local news with the rallies...

What is your local news reporting in regards to both rallies? I turned on the tv to hear this story about the prowar rally, complete with pictures and story. At the end, the newscaster said "by the way , there was an antiwar rally" And that was it!!!!!! I was so freaking pissed, I could not get my computer started quickly enough to email them a piece of my mind. I have never seen them play partisan politics before and am disgusted. This historical march deserves way more attention than the pathetic rally that only brought 100 people who support the war. We need to take the pictures from Reuters and we need to plaster them on billboards across the United States...

1. It's getting bad

The local newscasts are at the forefront of the propoganda wars. I tuned into one of our local stations this morning to discover that Bush and the federal government are doing a wonderful job with hurricane recovery and that a "homicide bomber" killed people in Bagdad because he hates freedom. Anti-war march? What march?

2. Just e-mailed Boston Globe,

it express my disgust and demand an explanation. Saturdays rally with about half a million participants, story on page A6 w/one 31/2" by 5" photo of crowd. Sundays rally, page 2 with 61/2" by 91/2" stage photo plus small picture of mother(crying) of soldier in Iraq. The article about Saturdays rally was Globe Staff, the one about Sundays rally was from Washington Post. I don't think this coverage was fair, it downplayed Saturdays rally. I can not understand
what justifies this unbalanced coverage!

I am disgusted... our local paper in Iowa had a very small blip about the rally and march...they did not have anything about the prowar rally because it was Sunday.

And then this morning.. as I posted..just disgusting.

4. Quick Mention Of Them On A Local Chicago Newscast

Crammed in between the Rita coverage, college football (it was a Saturday) and a local rainstorm, there was just a quick mention on the ABC affiliate here.

But this shouldn't be surprising. This is the weekend crew...less staff to both cover stories and write/report them. There was far greater coverage of the candle lighting protests as that was during the week and far more spread out.

Last night, I didn't see any mention of the other protest at all. Again...weekend crew, plus the newscasts were shortened so tons of worthless football highlights and commercials can be crammed in.

Unless the rally was extremely large...millions with lots of celebrities and media coverage, I didn't expect anything more than what I saw...a quick picture of the marchers in DC and the local rally. The tone of most the reports I've read have been positive and I'm not sure what people here are expecting?

6. just expecting coverage at all

The fact that the prowar gets pictures and an entire segment vs one sentence for the antiwar rally irritates me.. I do expect equal pictures at least, story from both.

That is great that you had coverage at all...I wish we had. So sick of the media portraying America as being prowar when that is not true.

That might be your problem.

After watching the rally on C-SPAN I'm glad there wasn't more coverage than what I saw...which was generally positive. There's plenty of "red meat" that came out of the speakers on that dias that is sure to keep the right wing talk radio hosts busy all week...and then some.

People here put a lot into this march and had great hopes. Include me in that group. But I also saw a lot of growing pains and other problems that occured. The anti-war movement is growing, but it hasn't found its voice or stride yet. Cindy Sheehan was the first face...but more are needed. It also needs a message that rallies rather than shows anger and frustration. Hopefully this will happen in the next march and twice as many people will be there.

Our local news comes out of Jacksonville and they made no mention of it at all.

7. Our "news" was HORRIBLE!

Our local news showed a hand full of people being arrested at a protest about the world bank. While this tape was being shown they talked about the "anti war" protest. Then they said, meanwhile down the road there was a "pro troop" rally. They showed interviews from gold star moms condemning Cindy, it was totally bias. I had to join their web site to get a letter to them asap. I said thing I probably shouldn't have, I'll probably be watched by homeland security.
