23. Presidential gas bill gets steeper (Aug article) - See some numbers!!
snip...

Taxpayers still foot the bill.

Almost every vehicle Bush uses is custom-made to add security and communications capabilities, and the heavier weight of these guzzlers further drives up gas and jet fuel costs.

The White House declines to discuss travel costs related to the presidential entourage, and did not respond to a request for the overall effect of higher fuel prices on its budget.

snip...

Elsewhere, whether in Washington, Des Moines, Iowa, or the Georgian capital Tbilisi, Bush is driven in a large motorcade. The typical presidential caravan has well over a dozen vehicles, including Bush's limousine and an identical limo put in as a decoy.

The motorcade generally doesn't cruise placidly at fuel-efficient speeds, but rather hurries along its route as fast as possible. It also often idles outside while Bush is at an event, burning up fuel but ready to depart at a moment's notice.

Gas-guzzling limos
The president's limos alone consume lots of gas.

Starting with his inaugural in January, Bush began tooling around in new 2006 Cadillac DTS limos.

The full-sized luxury sedan version, available to the general public, has an 18-gallon tank that would cost about $47 to fill at that $2.61-a-gallon rate. (White House vehicles are fueled at a special, dedicated facility and the price paid per gallon there is not released.) Cadillac spokesman Kevin Smith said the Cadillac DTS sedan gets 18 mpg in the city, 27 on the highway.

The vehicle Bush uses is a much different animal -- with different gas mileage. An outside company customizes the DTS for presidential use by "stretching" it to limo length, adding bulletproof glass, heavy armor and other bells and whistles -- all making it significantly heavier and less fuel-efficient, Smith said.

The same thing for the Chevrolet Suburbans that are sometimes used as limo substitutes. The mass-marketed 2005 K1500 Suburban would cost nearly $81 to fill up with its large 31-gallon tank. It gets 15 mpg in the city, 19 on the highway, according to http://www.fueleconomy.gov/. But it's not clear exactly which trim model of Suburban Bush uses, and his are custom-fitted with extra gear that would reduce the gas mileage.

Air Force One fleet
In the air, Bush most often flies on a Boeing 747-200B laden with, among other things, an anti-missile system. Like gas for cars, fuel costs for the largest plane in the Air Force One fleet have gone up dramatically -- from $3,974 an hour in fiscal 2004 to $6,029 per hour now, according to the Air Force.

more deferential and less-puffed up, and SLIGHLTY more humbled, toward the press THAN USUAL. In other words, i haven't heard any of his stupid quips, jokes or cocky chiding the press about number of questions he's being asked. Yet.

12. He's an empty suit
A failure and a phony who is an embarrassment for the United States Of America. No amount of flag waving the FReeptards can do will change that fact. Their pRESIDENT is a moron and that is what keeps them so angry and want revenge on others.I just came from lurking at their site and it is truly sickening and appalling at what they spew. It's amazing how they say we hate, but boy they sure do spill out enough hate themselves for ALL of us. I don't EVER want to be around those people and will screen everyone I come in contact with to avoid it. If I had neighbors like those idiots I would have to move. I could not and would not tolerate those American hating idiots. They were bitching because there wasn't any American flags flying at the peace and justice rally. Too bad they are so ignorant they can't understand that waving a flag isn't what makes you patriotic. Being patriotic is how you LIVE and how you treat others, and wanting policies that are GOOD for the country, not policies that will hurt us and bring us down. No wonder they support that blathering idiot. Their IQ is just as low if not lower than his. Excuse me while I go puke and disinfect myself. Being over at the FReeptard site is not good for one's health and I should have known better. :puke: :puke: :puke:

17. He looked really, really, really bad, especially at the beginning.
Did you see how deep the ridges were in his forehead? I just wonder what folks at the Energy Department really told him, because he looked just utterly overwhelmed. Energy may be the one important area that he actually understands. He only perked up a bit at the end when he got to talk about Texas.

And he has to face this while Uncle Dick is recovering from surgery.

After Katrina and Rita, I'm sure he's thinking about what event will give him the natural disaster trifecta.

in one sentence. Something like: "the terrists of al-Qaeda wish the terra of Rita wuz their terra, like the terra of 9-11 they brung us because we love Freedom, 9-11 wuz just like Rita".

Thinking is HARD WORK!

His speech was halting (used to that), his jaw was doing the sideways thing (used to that), the facial tics were going strong (used to that), but what is with the small loud gasps of air between every two or three words?

21. I think I might have a little insight on the breathing thing at least.....
I absolutely am terrified of public speaking. When I am forced to do it I get really nervous and then it seems like I have to take frequent breaths, whereas normally I do not even notice when I breathe during talking.

So maybe it's NERVOUSNESS.

about energy and the Gulf.

He may collapse physically and mentally. Setting aside his asinine, ultra-conservative beliefs, he is physically and temperamentally unsuited for the office. And it's showing.

During his appearance with Blanco, he was what I would call soft-spoken. Not his usual arrogance.
