I cannot save the world

and this hurts. So much trouble, so many suffering and I have so much to be able to even sit at this computer and type this. I am sorry for those I cannot help, but am chosing a project or 2 to focus on, hoping that even a little bit will help. It doesn't matter what you do, just that you do something. And do it well. And continue to do it. Peace.

We cannot save that which is not worth saving. But it is quite acceptable to work on that which you can at least make a bit of an improvement on. Thinking anything beyond that is attainable is just self-delusion.

I agree, and "world" for practical purposes , is 10 square miles from myself. Not that I am unsympathetic to Hurricane victims, etc; but there are people starving in my own home town, homeless, abused, in poverty...maybe even flooded out if we have a bad rain storm. I try to do what I can "locally". If everyone would "sweep the steps next door", we could better the world, if not save it. Yeah, we are all going to die anyway, bit cynical that, so how 'bout making living a bit better.?

I said it is fine to clean up your corner of the world. Judging by your closing statement, you IGNORED my saying that, and dwelled on the death comment instead. This is such a goddamn common problem in GD (selective post reading) I don't even know why I take the time to point this out.

It is great to clean up your corner, I said first, THEN I said we die.

Acknowledging the inevitability of death is not the same as cynicism or surrender. But I suppose the peculiar taboo Americans have about death leads to that kind of miscomprehension of the statement.

But while we're on the subject of what is "cynical", it is also a peculiar stance to think that cynicism is a flaw. It is actually a virtue that aids wisdom. I recognize that the world is fucked, not worth saving, and hopeless. But that we can make things a little better here and there before we buy the farm. ;-)

I think it is a major flaw to delude people into thinking we can "save the world".
