The Dems have all argued that the recall is an obstruction of the democratic process, and if we turn around and do it to our credibilty will be next to nothing. I always like revenge too, but as Ghandi said "an eye for an eye will leave everyone blind"

Settle down ok. And if Arnold does not win in 3 hours, you can tell me to eat it, but the odds are he will. So, I was trying to get people brainstorming on the subject.
As for since I don't live in Cali I have no write to think about the election, by that logic it was none of your business when Hillary ran because you didn't live in New York, so you had no right to even think about that election. Or, you shouldn't follow close senate races in the midwest, because those senators do not represent you.
The economies of the states are interdependent on each other, and if the biggest state in the country tanks, it will hurt every state. Therefore, it is my business.

All the support he got sofar makes me wonder if we shouldn't just place California in the same category as Florida and kinda leave it to its own devices. If Schwarzenegger loses this election it won't be by a landslide, and that by itself is a sad state of affairs.

12. Really, really stupid questions and venting this late in the game:

(Qualifier: I've been busy. Worked on Louisiana dem candidate's gubernatorial bid. Didn't make runoff. IOW, been pretty busy, then sleeping lots since Saturday.)

That said, I was laboring under a false impression of this Cali recall thing up until a three weeks or so ago. Prior, I figured that if recall passed, top 2 would go head to head in runoff if no one got 50%, as is the case in our open primary system here.

I'm really sorry that these are bound to be an old questions answered many, many times before. But why is the Cali recall set up as it is? How long has it been this way? And if G.D. gets, say, 45% tacit support w/ "No" and A.S. 38% on "WHO", how is that a political sea change, much less fair?

If anything like the above happens, isn't it really nearly the frigging polar opposite of a mandate? How could *anyone* govern? Has there been discussion of changing the recall law? If as above, wouldn't A.S. instantly be a far easier recall target than G.D. given that 65% just voted "No" on him?

Not to belabor my own ignorance, but I just began undertand this w/ a disgusted, full-body rejection of the concept yesterday when I heard numerous r-wingers on nat TV across the day crowing about the "done deal" of the "people's will...taking back their state."

Please tell me I've gotten this wrong, this ain't the way it works, there are no human beings as hypocritical as these wingnuts, and I just need more sleep.

Again sorry to be showing up so late and so stupid. But I figured one of the many recall threads a safe place for this (DU and nat tv deprived) slow learner's stupid questions and late-to-arrive venting.

90 seconds on the Matthews show on possible scenario above. 90 secs out of about 6-7 hours of recall coverage I've seen from Sunday on. Ben Stein says its fair b/c that's the law; Nachman says the recall is a "binary" question vs. the 135 on the ballot, i.e. apples and oranges.


What a pantload, IMHO.
