Cindy Sheehan Arrested at WH......... Yahoo News
WASHINGTON - Cindy Sheehan, the California woman who has used her son's death in Iraq to spur the anti-war movement, was arrested Monday while protesting outside the White House.

Sheehan and several dozen other protesters sat down on the sidewalk after marching along the pedestrian walkway on Pennsylvania Avenue. Police warned them three times that they were breaking the law by failing to move along, then began making arrests.

Sheehan was the first taken into custody. She stood up and was led to a police vehicle while protesters chanted, "The whole world is watching."

24. well, I too am anatomically incorrect for being described as
"having balls"

which is precisely one reason I find the idiom so amusing, and apply it liberally. ;)

in my view, it has since become a "dead metaphor" which means it has nothing to do with the anatomical organ to which it refers.

No offense intended.

whimsically tongue-in-cheek all the way up and down to my sagging tits,

sorry if you find it disturbing.

25. You could look at it another way
"having balls" - as in taking the power AWAY from Bushco.

6. Yeah
That's a pretty biased article.

Cindy Sheehan using her son's death? What sort of emotion does that engender in a reader?

8. I don't know about untruths...
But it is pretty sad that the only person quoted is a person from the miniscule pro-war rally.

12. I agree that's bad wording...
But not, you have to admit, untrue.

Her son has died, and because of that she has become very active in the antiwar movement. And her activity has spurred the movement along.
So, it's not untrue to say that her son's death has energized the antiwar movement.
But I do agree the wording is pretty bad. It carries a negative connotation.

13. That's not exactly true
She was active in leftist causes before her son died, as I understand it. She was already political aware when her son died - granted that probably did propell her forward.

16. How about the 100,000 number? that's not true either...
it's as slanted as all of AP's articles are.

My media reform groups have been watching this trend closely with AP lately.

18. Exactly. It's true, from a purely technical standpoint...
Her son's death did invigorate the antiwar movement. But the presentation is obviously biased.

27. A decent journalist might say
she was "motivated by her son's death." Used has a pejorative quality to it these days.

And kudos to Cindy for being motivated to speak out as she has done. She shows more courage than the entire ** administration rolled up together.

I don't like the wording "used" either. However, this isn't the first time that I've heard the media use that word concerning Cindy. :(

10. I object to the phrase "has used her son's death"
However, I like the way the article gets in the numbers for the two rallies: 100,000 vs. 500.
(Whether those are accurate or not, the implication is Big vs. Small.)

20. Well, Sheehan and others planned on being arrested today...
So they just did what they had to to get arrested. Mass arrests and civil disobedience were planned for today in D.C. Here's a link --
