8. It's on the back of her knee...
...perhaps a better way of going about that then the one on each arm and drag method. They wouldn't use that carry if she were struggling. It's peaceful civil disobedience.

21. Speaking for myself...
Having been arrested several times -- yes, I certainly am :)

The first time's a liberating experience. It's a bit like losing your virginity. Once you've done it, the other times aren't as big a deal

lol An expert! Can I ask you a couple of questions? Like how much it costs? I'm broke, so if I was planning anything like this, I'd need to save up! lol

34. Depends what you get arrested for...
Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 03:08 PM by SteppingRazor
They arrested Sheehan for demonstrating without a permit, I believe. Which is a very small fine, like $50 or $100 (larger for protest organizaers, sometimes)

I've been arrested for tresspassing twice, which carries a comparable fine.

I also got picked for assault, but that charge was dropped -- and often, that's the case. They arrest you just to get you off the street, but you wind up not actually facing any charges.

On edit: Oh, I also got picked with inhibiting an officer in the course of his duty, or some such nonsense. That was also dropped. But if either the inhibiting or the assault charge had stuck, both carry very stiff fines and/or prison time.

So, like I said in the subject line, it all depends what you get picked for.

36. Hmm, I was talking to my dh...
We were saying that if we went to a different city for a protest, and you get arrested and charged, do you have to show up in that same city for a hearing?

We're planners, sorry for all the questions! :)

23. MLK did it, too
You ask, "Are we as a people willing to do it?"

Um... I doubt it, not from what I've observed. If we haven't been motivated by now to do it by now, then I can't imagine what it would take. Call me a cynic, but I've come to the point where I truly believe that protests are pointless unless you're willing to ante up and make sacrifices and take risks. It's one thing to cheer on courageous folks like Cindy Sheehan, but unless there are thousands right behind her willing to take her place, there will be no change.

37. I dunno...
I'd never even thought of protesting til the past few years, but I'd be willing to be arrested to stop this war.

I'll bet there are a lot more people like me out there... It does take time. It also takes people seeing other people doing it to make it 'ok'...

And I think that's a huge thing Cindy did today - many people respect her, and now she has shown that it is ok to be arrested for civil dis. to end this war. People are afraid to be the first one to speak out, to be arrested.

I have hope... :)

You go girl! We are with you 100% of the way. We are so proud of you. Casey is so proud of you. That kind of looks like fun getting carried around by a couple of big strong men!! Whooooo Hooooo Cindy! I have no doubts that Casey is with you and God is with you. The strength you have shown can only be achieved with divine intervention. We are winning the battle and our troops will come home-I believe it.

25. Don't be surprised!!

Fascism is fascism!

Remember

'First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist, so I said nothing. Then they came for the Social Democrats, but I was not a Social Democrat, so I did nothing. Then came the trade unionists, but I was not a trade unionist. And then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew, so I did little. Then when they came for me, there was no one left to stand up for me.' Pastor Martin Niemöller
