What is up with the defeatism?

The polls have not even closed in CA. I don't like defeatism.

8. Have Faith
Defeatism WILL prevail if you really really believe.

4. A kick for speaking the truth, Sagan
(though some no doubt will find my comments hypocritical, but I have always said that the Bushevik Destruction of the American Experiment is still in doubt)

10. are those like the 2002 exit polls?

the ones that showed all those "tight" races the repugs won "miraculously".

Don't fulfill the news media. MAKE the news!

7. Me either...
... I thought the polls looked close. Let's don't cry in our beer until we have something to cry about.

And I'm not as convinced as many here that getting Arnold is such a bad thing. He will be inheriting a problem that is way, way, way over his little bitty head, and the idea he's going to engineer a write-off for Enron is suspect. The cameras will be on him and how will he spin that?

I know also that many seem to think that this will have something to do with the way Cali goes in 2004. Could it not cut both ways?

16. havent seen these defeatist posts and wont expect the worst either....
Even if Schwartzeneger wins the office he will face a democratic legislature which certainly will not roll over and play dead for him.....Perhaps, should he win ( though I hope to heck he is defeated)his total lack of ability or preparedness to be a governor will be exposed dramatically and all those knuckleheads who voted for him will learn what it means to vote for buzzwords and empty phrases!

9. It's not just the 'Liberal Media" promoting the Defeatism---
It's particular posters here at DU who love to act like know-it-alls who have some sort of secret exit polling showing Arnold winning. It's quite disgusting.

11. Thanks, Sagan! The polls don't close for another 4 hours!
Now, I haven't voted yet...If I were a dummy, I'd be saying, "uh, gee, everyone's saying that Arnold's the winner, so I guess there's no use in voting now."

Well, I'm not that stupid, and I am going to go vote soon. But the defeatism is really a slap in the face of all the volunteers who are working their asses off trying to stop this bogus recall.

:kick:

18. same here.
I think this could be a verrrry looong night. And they'll probably "call it" before the returns are in tomorrow morning. It doesn't sound real encouraging at this point.

Sometimes I wonder if an election day media blackout would be a good thing?

15. It's common
Edited on Tue Oct-07-03 06:03 PM by quinnox
I noticed defeatism is unusually common at DU, I don't know why. Maybe because of Bush (the little tyrant) being in office, I can understand why people would go a little crazy over this. I'm a relentless optimist myself, probably why I notice the defeatism more.

It's not defeatism, it's having a grip on reality.

21. Defeatism is
great at keeping people away from the polls.

Some see a single biased 'exit poll' and decide to not even bother voting.
It's a political tactic that has been done many times before.
:eyes:

BTW, this is one Californian who hasn't had the opportunity to vote yet!
