Uh ... how many dead in NOLA? Anybody?

I've been away for a bit, but I've heard very little about the death toll. Seems to me that the corporate owned media has sewn the gaping wound that was NOLA shut and we are, in the words of **'s evangelical base, "healed."

Back to business as usual. Shuffle along. Nothing to see here.

If Bush gets away with dismissing the deaths of these people, there is no fate harmful enough for him.

It will be 3. All those bodies we saw floating were just accidental tricks of light. No no, I mean they did die, but it was from natural causes like 'failure to breathe in water'. Those don't count. I mean, what bodies. You didn't see any bodies. All the so-called 'missing people' were actually raptured. Silly. Doubting God.

8. I really want to know about NOLA, because I believe the death toll

was astronomical. I believe that the death toll in NOLA, coupled with that of all Katrina victims, will also be shocking. But NOLA alone--because nearly the entire city perished--is what I'm interested in.

I have no idea why they aren't giving updates on Katrina deaths in NO - they even make a point that nobody in NO died due to Rita. That's nice, but we still haven't found a whole lot of dead folks in NO...

12. The last I heard

They were in the third stage of picking up the dead and that was suppose to take place while most of the water was pumped out.

Now it seems Rita has flooded those areas again and so I guess this will hold things up.

My guess is they will not get all the dead until well after all of the water has been pumped out of NO.

Katrina death toll continues to rise

BATON ROUGE, La. (CNN) -- The death toll from Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath now stands at 1,098 -- the third deadliest storm in U.S. history.

The following is the state-by-state breakdown:

-- Florida: 11

14. Nagin and FEMA got a deal on house searches

only search the ones flooded over 5 1/2 ft or those showing signs of life. Seriously. I don't understand it, but this is the most recent way to search. I guess they are searching for survivors, hence the "signs of life", but not searching under 5 1/2ft mucked I don't get.

FEMA works under a rule, approved by city officials: If the flood water levels had reached 5 1/2 feet, the team would break into the house to search for people. Homes that had lower levels were only forced into if signs of life appeared from outside.

we should be doing SOMETHING to bring this issue to the forefront. Right now there are a lot of disjointed clearinghouses for "missing" people. No way to match up or distinguish who is missing from who is dead--or to reconcile the two.

If the Red Cross can establish fundraising on every media channel and in every retail outlet you KNOW that FEMA or some other federal agency can establish a clearinghouse.

They don't want these people to be accounted for. They don't want them to count at all--just like our votes.
