Hey, DUers. I've been smitten with a moment of clarity.
I've been posting here for about a year and a half. Many of you have been here for perhaps four years or more.

Some posters are eloquent, some are poetic, some funny, some ironic, and others are philosophers.

However, after 5 1/2 years of the Bush Administration, a terrifying thought occurred to me. Perhaps, and hopefully I'm wrong, but words, thoughts, intellect, reason, logic, and plain human decency, are totally meaningless concepts with which many people still refer to those who control our country.

The barbarians at the gates have broken through. And they're in charge. The corporate, military, and established wealthy of this country, control everything. And, at the moment, there's nothing we can do about it.

NOLA? Another Halliburton contract.

Iraq? Uncounted deaths for the enhancement of our rulers (and more Halliburton contracts).

National security? Jobs for well-connected incompetents.

Well, I could post a much longer list, but you get the idea.

I don't know how we change it, but change it we must. Otherwise, every one of us, as in days of yore, will be chained to oars. And the only question the Republicans on those oars will have is, "Do we have to tip the guy with the whip?"

It might seem like an insane (or humorous) question, but we will be chained to the oars right next to these lunatics.

4. We're especially in trouble because of voting machine fraud.
Without change in this area, is doesn't matter how many of us wizen up. The right will still win.

6. Right on. Why the hell aren't the Dems screaming for paper trails?
The scum of the earth own the machines that count our votes. And elected Dems are off somewhere picking their noses and trying not to piss anyone off. All they're doing is enabling and abetting the thugs in charge.

And it's time we started holding all elected officials, thugs and Dems, equally responsible. They're all more concerned with getting reelected than with the oath they took " ... to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, against all enemies, foreign and domestic."

Screw 'em all. Thomas Jefferson told us, and wrote a magnificent document, on how to declare independence from tyranny.

8. Katrina, and Bush's zombie-like response. His 2005 "Pet Goat" performance
We're in deeper shit than the people of this country are aware of.

Perhaps I'm a pessimist, but I believe we're all going down due to the iceberg into which Bush & Company intentionally steered us.

10. well there's always live free or die tryin'
Seriously, when people feel enough pain and discomfort from the actions of this maladministration, they will wake up. We can help them with education and thoughtful dialog. Not everyone who supports this maladministration is incapable of rational thought. Some are just poorly informed and don't apply their intellect toward politics and how it affects their lives. Others are highly susceptible to the psychological manipulation from the constant barrage of bias and propaganda.

I helped educate my sister after she voted for Bush*. She spent too many years in those "wave your hands to God and surrender to the Spirit" churches. She realized that he is no Christian, but she doesn't have the time, like most people, to learn what this government is doing. It's a hard fight and one that will probably never end, but as they say "freedom isn't free" and that cost is learning what the government does and how it affects the health and welfare of our nation. If you have the time, energy, and opportunity to educate others, so much the better.
