Why Democrats WANT to beat themselves...
I am stunned at the foolishness of DU'ers. The Democrats have a can't-lose nominee in Clark and yet the goofball lefties and their love of high taxes and health insurance for everybody are going to ardently stand by their man, Howard Dean. Or, they are going to get behind John Kerry, who will have one helluva time distinguishing himself from Bush because of his vote on the Iraqi use-of-force resolution last fall. In addition, Kerry will be painted as part of the Teddy Kennedy (GOD bless his soul) Northeastern-liberal crowd. Plus, Mass. is a slam dunk for the Dems!

Question, would the Deanies be happy if their man were to become the next Secretary of HHS? Please tell me YES!

1. Too soon
Its WAY too soon to be talking about Clark being a "can't lose" nominee. I'm not saying that I don't like the man, I'm just saying that we know so little at this point...

8. Dr Fate..as much as I 'love' you...this poster did not bash Clark
I did not see bashing at all...just a question? Though I disagree, I think Clark also wants health care for all or at least a single payor plan that will take the profit from the insurance companies that do nothing to promote health care and put it into the hands of doctors and hospitals!

21. Oh- so this thread is not designed to pit Clarkies against Deanies?
And Kerry supporters are brought into the mix as well...

Clark WILL get bashed as a result of this flame bait.

Is my prediction as to where this thread is going that far off?

That said, did you miss Clark's statements on expanding social
services? I admit, if you have NO CONTACT with the social net in
the armed forces you probably missed what he said.

9. Ahem
I am a Clark supporter, but I must clarify a few points you made:

I love high taxes...for the wealthy and big corporations that ship jobs overseas, yes I do. No apologies.

I support the radical idea of health care for all, just like every other advanced country in the world.

Someone who is probably part of the best grassroots campaign in American history, settling for HHS Secretary?

NO WAY, I think not. I'm pretty sure it's Pres, VP, or nothing.

12. Rosenberg: “…Dean campaign is the best-run campaign we’ve ever seen.”
Dean still on top of money race

WASHINGTON, Oct. 1 — In the surreal mind-set of the campaign expectations game, psychology can get twisted at the end of every quarter. Democratic front-runner Howard Dean’s campaign publicly set $15 million as its goal for fund raising for the third quarter, which ended at midnight Tuesday. According to Dean’s Web site he raised $14.8 million, with last-minute contributions still being counted.

DEAN HAD dramatically exceeded fund-raising expectations in the second quarter by collecting $7.6 million. Is his $14.7 million a wee bit of a deflating result for the third quarter? Only if you live on the plane of surreal expectations.

EXTRAORDINARY MONEY MACHINE

Dean’s extraordinary money machine is still far more efficient than anything Missouri Rep. Dick Gephardt, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, or the other Democratic contenders have working for them.

Dean is on course to have enough money to air television ads and hire operatives in states where fund-raising laggards may not be able to during the hustle-bustle of primaries that will take place in February and the first week of March.

“We do believe it is an important decision that we’re going to have to make, because in the end Bush is just raising this money.... They’re going to raise $200 million and spend it against the Democrats between April and August when we go to the convention.... If we make the decision, it would be to compete with Bush. We’ve already proven that we can compete with the other Democrats.”

Simon Rosenberg, who heads the centrist New Democrat Network, put the Dean bounty in perspective by noting that in a 10-candidate field the former Vermont governor was able to raise 50 percent more than Bill Clinton raised in the best quarter of his 1996 re-election effort. Rosenberg called Dean’s feat “almost miraculous” and added, “We have to recognize that the Dean campaign is the best-run campaign we’ve ever seen.”

Taking the party-wide view, Rosenberg pointed to what almost no one else has noticed: Based on the preliminary estimates for the third quarter, the 10-person Democratic field collectively will have outraised the Bush campaign, an indication of how fired up Democratic donors are.

“If Bush is this supposed fund-raising king, then this so-called ‘weak’ Democratic field — to use Karl Rove’s word — is outraising him,” Rosenberg said.

Wesley Clark's campaign manager quits

WASHINGTON -- Wesley Clark's campaign manager quit Tuesday in a dispute over the direction of the Democratic presidential bid, exposing a rift between the former general's Washington-based advisers and his 3-week-old Arkansas campaign team.

Donnie Fowler told associates he was leaving over widespread concerns that supporters who used the Internet to draft Clark into the race are not being taken seriously by top campaign advisers. Fowler also complained that the campaign's message and methods are focused too much on Washington, not key states, said two associates who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Spokesmen for the campaign declined to comment.

22. You're funny...
you republicans just can't seem to puke out a question without spewing a little of the hate and selfrightious loathing that keeps your black hearts pumping.

How about this--the reason so many democrats choose to back different candidates is because we can think for ourselves and don't think that going against their party on certain issue means *poof* they turn republican all of a sudden.

go to heck...

*chuckle*

23. You contradicted yourself in two sentences.
You say Kerry will have trouble distinguishing himself from Bush, then you say he''l have trouble didtinguishing himself from Ted Kennedy and the northeast liberals. I don't think Kerry will have a problem with either.

The Fire Fighters endorsed Kerry because he's one tough as nails liberal under the elegant, moderate language.
