And would you consider stating that to rightards every chance you get?

BREAKING: FEMA Rehires Mike Brown
From CBS News:

CBS News correspondent Gloria Borger reports that Michael Brown, who recently resigned as the head of the FEMA, has been rehired by the agency as a consultant to evaluate its response following Hurricane Katrina.

UPDATE: The Department of Homeland Security is already spinning the story. From the AP:

Brown is continuing to work at the Federal Emergency Management Agency at full pay, with his Sept. 12 resignation not taking effect for two more weeks, said Homeland Security Department spokesman Russ Knocke.

During that time, Brown will advise the department on “some of his views on his experience with Katrina,” as he transitions out of his job, Knocke said.

This isn’t consistent, however, with Brown’s statement on the day he resigned:

Today I resigned as Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. As I told the President, it is important that I leave now to avoid further distraction from the ongoing mission of FEMA.

Haven't heard of him doing that yet, so I assume he's fairly "gruntled." ;-)

7. Yeah, I'm a little off here. He was dumped, then given a second chance...
...so his new job is as rabid attack dog. So, what is the phrase I'm looking for here? It has to be a phrase that *co used to smear a patriot.

8. Nope. I've seen this kind of cronyism too often in corporations.
I've seen 'connected' people leave the (formal) employ of a corporation, after being a well-placed manager, and continue to pull strings as a 'consultant' under some Purchase Order for their 'service' - when they actually pulled political strings and engaged in back-stabbing and (what I can only term as) fifth-column activities. Woe be unto the poor slob hired to manage such an organization if that replacement isn't 'connected.' This scenario often plays out when there are (always very confidential) legal issues that the 'former' manager is liable for or too hot to handle. The hired replacement is brought in by a director/executive with a covert agenda -- sometimes to be a hatchet-man against subordinates of the former manager where a wrongful discharge action was in the making. Invariably, there are deep-seated personnel and operational problems that need to be addressed - problems that the 'former' manager is responsible for creating. When a new manager comes in and deals with such problems, it's a suicide mission -- but they're usually not familiar enough with the political landscape to know this.

Like maybe Brownie spoke to Bush and warned him about Katrina in advance or something. I wonder when Bush dubbed Brownie Brownie...
