The Constitution doesn't mean a damn thing anymore.

The Supreme Court won't uphold their checks against the other branches of government when they don't want to because there is supposedly still the ability of our lawmakers to pass a law overriding what has happened.

Basically, this means if the president can control congress, he's invincible.

Look at lawsuits like, say, Kucinich v. Bush. Bush decides to withdraw from a treaty by his lonesome, clearly against the constitution. Even the judge agrees with the fact it was unconstitutional, but says that since congress can pass a law to rectify the situation, the court refuses the plea.

Of course, congress can't and won't do shit, because most of the members either agree or don't want to piss off their party and whoever is president.


We've been doomed to basically live in an oligarchy when the majority of congress and the supreme court will agree with the president anyhow, but now the constitution itself doesn't even matter anymore. The people have no way to check the government in power, and the supreme law of the land no longer applies.

Who still thinks Jefferson wouldn't be revolting against the government right now?
