Edited on Tue Sep-27-05 05:51 PM by pbartch
Yes....IMPEACH Bush.....Perhaps our next president will be a woman. I am looking forward for this television show.

Yes.....it's about time to show an INTELLIGENT, ASSERTIVE, WONDERFUL woman as the President of the United States. I'm looking forward to seeing this. Hope this show just kills the Repukes! (Kill -- not literally....just figuratively.

Commander in Chief
Premieres Tue., Sept. 27, 9PM ABC

Premise: Female Vice President Mackenzie Allen is suddenly thrust into power.
Cast: Geena Davis, Ever Carradine, Kyle Secor, Julie Ann Emery, Donald Sutherland
Our 2¢: Is America ready for a female president? Film vet Rod Laurie is hoping so, especially since 'The West Wing' is probably ending its term this year. 'Chief' is less about the inner workings of the White House and more about the concept of balancing family with being an Independent in DC.

15. That stopped last season
They moved it to Monday nights last year and it did even better than it did on Tuesdays. Nothing to worry about. :)

6. Hee Hee! Hollywood Giving Hil A Bit of Boost
Edited on Tue Sep-27-05 05:50 PM by Beetwasher
Putting the idea of a great woman president in the public consciousness...Hee hee...Not necessarily saying they're doing this on purpose or for that reason, but this show, especially if it's a hit, could do just that...

9. AAGGHH! Don't play into this!
I've been waiting for this. If you believe everything we've been posting about the media manipulation of the electorate for the past five years, then at least consider that this bullshit plays right into it. We're being treated like children, and we're simply being primed for the Hillary/Condi run they're going to cram down our throats for 08. We aren't ready for a female president tomorrow, but lets soften up the masses for a couple of years and whip 'em into line.

That said...Geena Davis herself would be a better president than Bush. Any of the characters she's played would be. My dog would be a better president than Bush.

10. Who says it has to be Hillary?
I can think of at least a few other ladies with a chance at the White House in '08 that would be great presidents.

16. What do you mean "we aren't ready for a female president tomorrow"
There is no reason on GOD'S GREEN EARTH that a woman would not make a great president.

I hope this thread doesn't turn into a political fight about that topic but really......this is the 21 century!!

18. Oh, no, don't get me wrong...WE are ready...America is not
I personally would LOVE to see a Condi-Hillary fight, as it would cause the right wing to totally implode. To a republican, the only thing more scary than a woman president would be a black woman president. I'd love to force them to choose between that eeeeevil Hillary, or a black woman. I think 90% of them just wouldn't vote. It would be an awesome contest.

Obviously, any of us progressive can handle a woman president. I'd have voted for a woman in 00 or 04, no sweat. There are better choices, less polarizing choices, than Hillary. But I'd happily vote for her.

I don't think many of the residents of Kansas or Mississippi or most of "middle America" would, though. That, I think, is the genesis of this show. It's real purpose is to get teevee watching middle America used to the idea of "strong women." You have to admit, we're still a nation of cavemen when it comes to strong women.

19. "The White House Project"
http://www.thewhitehouseproject.org/whp_news/roper-asw_05-02-02.html

Yes, it's overdue. Canada has had a female prime minister, as has Britain and New Zealand. India has been led by a woman, and the Philippines too. (Other countries escape me at the moment)

We are long overdue.
