Or something other than a CNN reporter's slip? Did Californians, who rejected Bush in 2000 and reelected Davis last year, really get energized to recall Davis and vote in Schwarzenegger this year? How will we know until the polls close? Why is everyone predicting doom?

The sources are all Repub oriented. Therefore, no one needs to get their dander up until the polls close and REAL results start coming in.

Drudge is just reporting what the major networks already think they know. Virtually all the exit polls appear to point to an utter disaster for Davis and a clear victory for Arnold.

Perhaps all the exit polls are wrong, but somehow I doubt it. I think the writing has been on the walls for this election for quite some time.

Not sure if it is something along the lines of VNS, or if each network is doing their own polling.

Either way, they all seem to be in some sort of agreement. If you believe the networks, which Drudge appears to be echoing, Davis is finished and Arnold is CA's new Governor.

Personally, I wish the media would let people cast their ballot and shut the hell up about it until the voting is officially over - but I am afraid such an idea will never fly.

Gray Davis was extremely vulnerable last November. If Dick Riordan ran instead of Bill Simon, Davis would have been toast.

This isn't a reforendum on (R) vs (D) but against Gray Davis. The polls are almost closed so I will stop holding my tongue to say that I have never liked Davis. I have disliked him since he ran the sleaze campaign against Dianne Feinstein in the 92 primary. He cynically flip flops on "principle" whenever anybody waives money into his face, and his cynical, cruel rejection of parole for people who deserve it, over the rulings of his own parole board piss me off to no end.

I voted against the recall, and for Bustamonte, but I wasn't enthused. It was a no BFEE vote, not an affirmative vote for Davis.

17. The outcome of this game was set for some time

The motive force was change (that eliminates Davis and Bustamante) without sacrificing the libertarian values that Californians hold dear (that eliminates McClintock and Comejo).

Arnold pulled a con. He lied that he was the outsider, a man of the people. But, behind the lie, he has no vision of California other than a place where business should be allowed to do whatever it wants. An extension and expression of his egomaniacal will to power.

I was born and lived in California most of my life. My family goes back before the Gold Rush. And of all the ugly and greedy and loony changes that have ruined that beautiful state, once such an isolated paradise lost, and the reverence for nature of Ansel Adams or Robinson Jeffers, this election of Arnold Schwarzenegger is really the final ignominy. I don't think anyone can ever really feel part of a place unless they're born there. So I'm again in mourning for my great state on the Pacific, and for what it used to be.

and I know what you mean. Not a Californian...but grew up in a place that has changed so much due to greed and real estate interests..that I can understand what you must feel. And if that pumped up jerk does win..then we are all going to be sorry for it. Even if there was nothing we could do in the rest of the country. Sitting with hands tied like we felt in FLA. Maybe it will turn overnight. Until the last vote is counted, there's some hope.
