G.G. Liddy
Hi all.

This is my first actual new thread posting. I usually wait until I have something really interesting or new to say before I post a new thread, but many of you here usually beat me to it and put it much, much better than I could anyway! But this time is an exception. And it's not even because I have anything very interesting to say, it's mainly because I'm amazed at this man's total stupidity and wanted to share some of it with you for chuckle's sake.

Since I happen to live in a "red" state, AM talk radio here rather bites, as well as you may imagine. Clear Channel and Fox and others who carry the likes of Rush, Hannity, Larsen, etc, are the usual fare. Though it turns my stomach to listen to much of it I do occasionally just to see what lies and utter BS propaganda these guys are spewing forth today. Today however was an exception as the absolute ridiculousness of what I heard threw me for a loop.

I'm talking about that asshat criminal GG Liddy and his boring and lie filled radio show.

He said two things today that made me ill. To wit;

The topic was on global warming. I'll make this short and brief. I forget the name of his guest, but he was another right wing nutcase, supposedly some kind of expert on the subject. Anyway, here's what was said;

On the topic of global warming and Freon emissions....

Liddy said "There is nothing wrong with Freon. It's safe. It does'nt cause any harm to the atmosphere. Why, the oceans themselves produce and put into the atmosphere more freon than mankind has manufactured in this century everyday!".

I found this quite odd, since Freon is a completely man-made substance. It was invented by Thomas Midgley in 1928. It is a mixture of different chlorofluorocarbons, and while CFC's may be somewhat attributable to natural causes (carbons and chlorine) Freon is definitely a wholly artificial substance and is not in any way "produced by the oceans".

Then he went on to talk about DDT, and it's banishment from use in the US, in his opinion unnecessary since it's "a harmless and extremely useful compound" and since it's use is also being very limited even in many third world countries, he attributes many of today's problems not on such poisonous man-made substances themselves but on the fact that they can't be used! He claims that most global warming is caused by burning vegetation in such countries, the deterioration and breaking down of organic matter on the world's surface (which he claims is totally natural and has been occurring for thousands of years) and the sun getting hotter.

OK, I'm done. No need to go on any further. But could someone please tell Liddy he needs to go back to drinking, lying, ass kissing and thieving for a living? Because he's a miserable failure of a talk radio host.

4. Yes he does and...
....just to add another laugh into the mix he went on to claim that Co2 emissions are harmless as well and totally overblown as an issue since the planet produces the gas itself on a massive scale everyday, just like he claimed with Freon. He claims Co2 emissions are produced naturally by the decay of organic matter on the planet, and that Indonesia is responsible for almost 10% of the total emissions of the gas due to forestry burning and land clearing and that the U.S. is by no maens the largest producer and "thank god Bush had the common sense not to sign on to the Kyoto Treaty".

Excuse me, typing all this gave me a sudden urge to throw up...

5. G. Gordon Liddy is not only an asshole...
... he doesn't know his science worth a shit.

Freon (a misnomer, in a way, because we're talking about a wide variety of chlorofluorocarbon compounds), is not largely responsible for global warming.

There are two dominant, and different, atmospheric effects at work due to surface emissions. Many refrigerants are responsible for ozone depletion. That causes an increase in ultraviolet rays of a particular bandwidth, thus causing an increase in external cancers, but which have minimal effects on global warming.

The second major surface emission is the category of greenhouse gases, which include, principally, methane and carbon dioxide--these are the principal gases causing global warming. Methane is the worst of the two, but is broken down in the upper atmosphere relatively quickly. Carbon dioxide is much more long-lived, and is produced, mostly, by burning fossil fuels.

Now, that's not what G. Gordon Liddy said, because G. Gordon Liddy doesn't know shit from shinola. He never will, because he wants to promote industries which will damage the environment--they are, after all, his advertisers. He doesn't know what he's talking about. That's what one really needs to know about anything G. Gordon Liddy.

He's a twit. The people who listen to and believe what he says are twits.

`Nuff said.

6. Interesting......what is up with the whole DDT
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 03:06 AM by FormerOstrich
issue? Isn't odd how repetitive themes emerge when dealing with whacko right wingers?

I post on a local board (glutton for punishment I suppose) and just a couple of days ago this speech was posted from a resident right winger (actually I thought it was an odd thing for him to post) but it does talk about DDT.

....snip

So I can tell you some facts. I know you haven't read any of what I am about to tell you in the newspaper, because newspapers literally don't report them. I can tell you that DDT is not a carcinogen and did not cause birds to die and should never have been banned. I can tell you that the people who banned it knew that it wasn't carcinogenic and banned it anyway. I can tell you that the DDT ban has caused the deaths of tens of millions of poor people, mostly children, whose deaths are directly attributable to a callous, technologically advanced western society that promoted the new cause of environmentalism by pushing a fantasy about a pesticide, and thus irrevocably harmed the third world. Banning DDT is one of the most disgraceful episodes in the twentieth century history of America. We knew better, and we did it anyway, and we let people around the world die and didn't give a damn.

...snip

8. Kyoto and outsourcing
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 03:26 AM by Gnostic
Thanks for that article.

Let me also add, that Liddy tried to tie in the Kyoto Treaty and the entire "hysteria" (his words not mine) about global warming itself to corporate outsourcing. In other words, he claims that if we adopted such "stringent" measures to protect the environment, industry here will suffer tremendously and MORE jobs will be outsourced than ever before. He claims that if the Kyoto Treaty were adopted here, "it would make the Great Depression look like a Sunday picnic".

10. It is
close enough.

And yes, he did, verbatim, liken Kyoto to the Great Depression as a consequence.

7. So Many Lies...So Little "G" Man
FYI...this man was sent to prison for being part of the conspiracies to break into the DNC headquarters in a little place known as Watergate. He was a CIA goon known as a scary MF...and the G-Man legend was born. I was accidentally stuck in the "G Gordon Liddy" Story when it was filmed in Sycamore, Illinois in 1980...I was caught in the traffic jam. LOL.

Well, try this one...if DDT was so safe and wonderful, why was it HIS BOSS, Richard Nixon that banned it? Liddy thinks he's a living Rambo...still playing the myth he can hold a candle under his palm and not flinch (his old gimmick)...but he's nothing more than an angry, feeble, dangerous old man.

They are diametrically opposed politically (or at least on the surface). I just have a hard time imagining Franken and Liddy in the same room together much less being pals. But frankly nothing surprises me about Franken anymore either.
