11. From my understanding 1 criminal count of conspiracy
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 11:41 AM by Carni
Of course the MORONS on CNN are basically spinning this like it's ludicrous and will be dismissed.

Ah ha ha now Jeffrey Toobin is saying it is *immensely serious*

Next step arraignment
then pre-trial
then trial date set

He will have to step down as majority leader until this is resolved...could take a year

DeLay Indicted in Campaign Finance Probe By LARRY MARGASAK, Associated Press Writer
1 minute ago

WASHINGTON - A Texas grand jury on Wednesday charged Rep. Tom DeLay and two political associates with conspiracy in a campaign finance scheme, an indictment that could force him to step down as House majority leader.

DeLay attorney Steve Brittain said DeLay was accused of a criminal conspiracy along with two associates, John Colyandro, former executive director of a Texas political action committee formed by DeLay, and Jim Ellis, who heads DeLay's national political committee.

GOP congressional officials said the plan was for DeLay to temporarily relinquish his leadership post and Speaker Dennis Hastert will recommend that Rep. David Dreier (news, bio, voting record) of California step into those duties.

42. Faux News tried to pass it off as a minor deal...
it was "only" the state legislature, after all.

One of their panelists screwed them though, pointing out that by fixing the legislative races, Delay changed the way Congressional Districts were apportioned, which led directly to the GOP gain of 5 seats.

They also were ecstatic about the possibility of David Drier being the new (temporary) Majority Leader: he's so photogenic!

(cut to shot of Jon Stewart rubbing his eyes in astonishment)

52. Yes. David Drier is gay.
I don't know if it's true, but if this Administration has taught us anything, it's that if you repeat a lie often enough it becomes true.

It also isn't a lie if you believe it is true.

Thus: I believe David Drier is gay. It is not a lie. If I keep saying he is, then it is true.

:sarcasm:

What a nice present to have for the weekend. Looks like that Grand Jury smells some conspiracy. Let the games begin.

Already the spin is out there...Mrs. Limbaugh on CNN saying how Earle is a Democrat and how this is "just politics". I guess some fine folks in Dallas sitting on a grand jury don't quite agree.

...for now.

Even a plea bargain will be an admission of guilt and cut the bug man's influence down quite a bit.

Right now he'll still control the party...just like the mafia don does from behind bars...through his proxies. But should he get nailed...he's political dead meat and so is anyone else tainted by his connections and money.

This indictment is striking like a major hurricane has hit both the Repugnican caucus and K Street. While they say "I think this is a partisan witch hunt"...they also wondering "I wonder what this Earle guy has on me..."

Welcome To DU!!

23. Not too long ago PBS had a special on DeLay and his corrupt TRMPAC
I think it was on NOW with Bill Moyers. Probably...six months ago or so.

Ronnie Earl is NOT partisan. They only claim that because it's DeLay's most common excuse: "Oh pity me, the partisan Democrats are just trying to do dirty politics on me." As if he never doled out dirty politics in his life? He is the epitome of it.

There is some justice left in the world.

I just called a freeperish relative to see if they had heard the news (another person in the house being very politically astute, though more conservative than I) - unfortunately, I only got to talk to the freeper, but the freeper said: 'You shouldn't be so excited, someone on your side could be next.' ?!

I just replied, 'Well, if they've done something they could be indicted for.....'

Muhahahahahahaha

DeLay indicted on conspiracy charges
House majority leader's position in jeopardy.

AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF

Wednesday, September 28, 2005

A Travis County grand jury today indicted U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay on one count of criminal conspiracy, jeopardizing the Sugar Land Republican's leadership role as the second most powerful Texan in Washington, D.C.

The charge, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years incarceration, stems from his role with his political committee, Texans for a Republican Majority, a now-defunct organization that already had been indicted on charges of illegally using corporate money during the 2002 legislative elections.

The grand jury, however, took no action against Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick, Texas Association of Business President Bill Hammond or state Reps. Dianne Delisi and Beverly Woolley, both of whom sit on the political committee's board, for their roles in the election.
