We should stop following everyone who speaks out against...
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 11:45 AM by Marnieworld
...anything. We should abandon anyone who speaks out against the Bush Administration, the people within and all policies domestic and foreign. We should try and appeal only to people that support the GOP currently and we can only win their support by repeating everything the GOP says.

We should stop blaming the Administration for any bad things that happen. Warnings, and available intelligence and science are not enough to prevent or prepare for terrorist attacks or Natural Disasters. Everyone makes mistakes and Democrats only look petty when they are critical. Do not align yourself with anyone who asks questions or demands explanations. They are finger-pointing partisans who you do not want to be associated with. There is no distinction between someone claiming that the US did not land on the moon, Elvis sightings, and claims of election fraud. Anyone that voices any doubts or objections about anything the Bush Administration has done, or will do is a tin-foil hat wearing left-wing loony with no credibility.

To win elections, Democrats, we must be one unified voice. That is how the voters will know who we are and what we stand for. Doubt me at your peril. Silence=victory.

Edit to add: :sarcasm: for anyone who didn't get it.

<this post is dedicated to all of the alleged DUers who flooded our boards with Anti-Sheehan and Answer threads recently. You are so afraid and so transparent. You aren't fooling anyone.>

1. Indeed. Democracy means shutting up and staying out of the way!
Letting our social betters have a free hand.
Let our dear leaders lead!

6. I'll clarify
I'm not on board with all of Answer's politics either and I'm sorry if I implied that you weren't an authentic DUer if you had some disagreement. I was speaking to some threads that were multiple recently all with the theme that we should abandon Cindy Sheehan and the threads that were so Anti-Answer that were posted suspiciously close to the very big rally in DC this past weekend.

I was making fun of the so many threads that pop up occassionally from people who I think are repug trolls that are trying to influence our thinking to do the exact opposite of what will benefit us. These posts usually happen when something has happened or someone like Sheehan has done something that can be electrifying and have great impact. After the big fat rally is when I saw all of the Anti-Answer posts. The Anti-Sheehan stuff swelled up as she was getting arrested therefore potentially she could have more of an impact in a martyr-type way. I see these posts as calculated ploys to control damage.

These posts fall under the general premise of I'm a concerned Dem but I think strategically we should go in a different direction. That direction is usually the muddled middle ground and it usually negates whatever negative impact there could be for the Repubs.

Will Pitt has a big fat post on the subject responding to these posts as if they were sincere. I'm posting as if they weren't and I'm making fun of them.

Go ahead disagree with anything you want dude. I was just responding to threads that say you shouldn't. I hope that this helped clarify.

8. That's not bad
Yesterday I was informed I was a racist, pro-life, anti-environment, warmongerer because I dared to say that people who don't like ANSWER being dumped on are the same ones willing to dump on the entire Democratic Party every single day. Some Democrats don't like either one of those extremes, but get sick of divisive sideshows all the same.

4. We should support ANSWER, Chavez, Castro, Mumia, Peltier,
and every other left wing group and always speak with a unified voice about the far left agenda. We should piss all over anybody who doesn't support full socialism now and quickly end all copyright and property laws. We should pass laws to close all zoos, aquariums and circuses and most importantly, outlaw eating all meat. We should also disband the Pentagon because with the Dept of Peace, we will never be attacked again. And tax churches.

And anybody who doesn't support all of this with a unified voice is a corporate whore and traitor to Democrats everywhere.

7. Straw man
"The Straw Man fallacy is committed when a person simply ignores a person's actual position and substitutes a distorted, exaggerated or misrepresented version of that position. This sort of "reasoning" has the following pattern: "

1. Person A has position X.
2. Person B presents position Y (which is a distorted version of X).
3. Person B attacks position Y.
4. Therefore X is false/incorrect/flawed.

16. I did it on purpose
The OP doesn't seem to grasp the difference between the kind of message a majority can unify behind and one one that can't. ANSWER has no message that appeals to the majority, so arguing that not supporting ANSWER is somehow stifling Democrats is ridiculous.

Frankly, I find the whole thing divisive and destructive. Just as I find Cindy attacking Dems as divisive and destructive. There's plenty for her to say against the Bush Administration. When was the last time SHE said DSM?? Or addressed the failure of ideological corporate cronyism in the reconstruction?? Or the lack of regional cooperation in Iraq?? Or any other failure of the Bush Administration? Getting sidetracked on Democrats plays right into Republican hands. Just like getting sidetracked on ANSWER does.

The point of finding a unified message and sticking to it is to avoid those traps. Unfortunately, far too many people refuse to understand.

13. You looked up the wrong thing
try 'satire' and 'parody'. The post you referred to isn't a straw man...

14. Those possibilities are not mutually exclusive.
They both are straw man arguments, the post I referred to
is also parody. What you like most likely depends on who
you agree with. I find the attacks on Cindy reprehensible,
and so I found the original post amusing.

12. You wimp. Socialism is just capitalism lite. Communism is the...
...only form of economics and government that is acceptable. You are obviously a freeper. Plus you neglect the greatest abuse of all in your little diatribe. We must stop the inhumane abuse of plants. If you were a soy would you consent to being crushed, pulped and turned into oil? Then how can you call yourself liberal and allow that to be done to poor plants that have no voice. "Tax Churches"...WTF? Once we have established the TEN INDISPUTABLE TRUTHS, there will be no more churches. You're a capitalist sell-out, just like Chairman Mao.
