Did anyone see "Boston Legal" last night?

I'm not really a fan of this show and haven't ever seen it before but last night I was bored so decided to watch it anyways since there was nothing else really on. I'm not familiar with the case I'm about to bring up from the show so I don't really have much to say about the case since I don't know the details. There was a case about prayer in the work place and one of the lawyers for the people of the show showed a video tape to prove how we're such a Christian country. On the video it showed people like Bush2, Reagan and then showed Kerry at the convention from last year, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and Jimmy Carter. The person mentioned how Bush was an evangelical president (ha!) and now was Christians time and it was popular in the country and the case wouldn't go over well for the other side. The other side was dumbfounded and I couldn't believe they let him get away with that crap! If that was me and I was a lawyer I would've fought him back tooth and nail. What abou the only Muslim in the building? Athiest? While proclaiming to be a Christian country we came here and slaughtered thousands of Natives (and we still treat them horribly), slavery, racism, sexism, illegal wars, outing CIA agents, treason on the country, stealing elections, loving money more than you do God (which is a no-no to God) etc. So who else here saw it and what did you think? I forgot to add at the end of the tape each time they showed it they showed Clinton's Lewinskey testimony for some reason and each time the guy went "Oops, that wasn't supposed to be there" or just plain "oops." :eyes:

26. I remember flipping channels, through Leno one night, and seeing

Shatner and Joe Jackson together performing some number onstage. Yes, that's right, 80's New Wave Joe Jackson.

This was not that long ago, within the last year I think, I guess maybe when Shatner released that album and was pimping it. I remember thinking, "WTF--am I seeing what I THINK I'm seeing?"

3. Sorta watched.

I kind of watched off an on. Didn't see the whole thing but I did see the two scenes you're talking about. I don't have the context either since this was the first time I've ever seen the show, and again, I didn't sit down and watch the whole thing. I was puttering about and doing laundry. I was a bit disturbed by it and by them always ending with Clinton and his "I did not have sex with that women" scene. I think they forgot that Clinton went to church service at a predominantly black baptist church while in office.

I would have slapped down that kid so fast he would need to look up to see down. And to top it off, the kid made an obvious sexual come on to the female attorney when she confronted him about it after the meeting. I doubt I'll be watching anymore episodes of this show.

11. It's a great show

Don't get turned off by this one episode.

I personally saw it as satire -- the folks who appeared on this little video "presentation" hardly came across as godly. As for Clinton, well, I love a good Clinton joke myself.

because they aren't. The only one shown who I would consider closest to it is Carter. He was one of the most honest Presidents we've ever had as far as I'm concerned.

I did get that most it was satire, but I still didn't care for the show very much. Besides, at 10pm, its just too late for me to stay up for the whole thing.

He was nothing but a hypocrite himself. "Now is our time" and then turning around and hitting on a woman who's going through a divorce (still married). :eyes: I would've done the same and smacked him around too (not physically speaking of course). I would've played the video clip of Kerry talking about how to not manipulate the Constiution for the guy!

5. It was a good tactic for a settlement conference to make the plaintiff

cave in from a high demand. The case of course had merit (yes, I'm Jewish, so I can sympathize with the plaintiff), but the young lawyer was showing that the plaintiff might not get a jury to rule in his favor. The jury would undoubtedly be mostly Christian. I don't know what the rules of civil procedure are in Mass. In California, a plaintiff in a civil case can win with 9 of 12 votes. But the plaintiff's lawyer in the case last night has to worry that he cannot get the votes he needs to win; therefore, he might be more inclined to consider a settlement. The bottom line is winning, no matter how meritorious the plaintiff's case.

17. I would've used the Constiution

There would've been a way to get the votes. I would've asked the jury and said that God loved me enough to give freewill so why don't you love other people to give them freewill? The Constiution in the first amendment states freedom of religion. There is an appropriate time and place for religion but not in the work place. In my opinion you should ALWAYS fight for the Constiution. No matter what!

14. the show is always making fun of current topics

like mad cow disease, intelligent design, and now religion at the workplace. His show is basically a farce and trys to make light of the fundies. Also the writer, David Kelley always puts tons of sex in his shows. I think it is good that he is bringing it out of the closet. Every place I have ever worked at, the men were constantly doing surveillance for sex. Plus David Kelley is married to Michelle Pfeiffer, and I betcha she helps him write his scripts.

ANYTHING said on his shows at face value, because he's trying to make you think - not what hollywood writers usually do.
Having watched all his series, including this one, I take it as a warning that America has been "Christinaized", something we here already know. Plus, it showed how politicians all use god/religion for their personal gain - highlighting their hypocricy. The Clinton shots show how Clinton isn't considered "one of them", because he commited a sexual sin. I think that was his point.
David Kelly is a fabulous writer, IMO, who puts it all out there for the viewers; I think his last series lost popularity because it went after the Catholic church for their priest sex abuse scandal- it was absolutely damning of them. He's nowhere close to being right-wing, so bear that in mind.

Fred Thompson, hiss whenever he's on air.
Frankly, I like this show. James Spader's character is a hoot; a guy with his own twisted moral compass, who somehow manages to get you on his side, even though you know he's totally amoral. And Shatner plays the world famous has-been attorney who may have Alzheimer's, well - as only Shatner can. They both won Emmys for this show, deservedly so, IMO.

Why was it classified as a drama? The show cracks me up and I love the satire.

Maybe there should be a new category for the Emmys: Dramedy.

"Desperate Housewives" would also fit the category.

23. Monk is a perfect example!

Where you laugh through the tears, as Monk faces trial after tragedy, yet makes you chuckle. I agree that these shows are hybrids; half drama, half comedy. Don't hold your breath waiting for a new Emmy category, though - the comedy writers would revolt. I enjoy the satire, too, as well as dramas with a lighter touch - many of the dramas are just too dark these days. I'll try to think of more.

20. I love the show, but that was a bit...weird.

I am hoping they follow up on it in later shows and blast them out of the water with a little bomb called The Law!
