I think DeLay's career is likely over
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 01:56 PM by bluestateguy
Don't get me wrong, I think it's entirely likely that DeLay could find a sympathetic judge or appellate court in Texas (and there are a lot of them here)to throw out the indictment, or conviction if he is convicted. Could he be acquitted? Sure he could.

But even if all that happens, I just don't see Republicans wanting to bring him back into a position of leadership. And you know he won't want to be a back bencher.

He was re-elected with 55% of the vote last year against an underfunded opponent. Let me say that again for emphasis. The House Majority Leader, in a district carried by Bush overwhelmingly, won re-election with 55% of the vote against an opponent that few people knew anything about.

1. He's a tough politician and his base is loyal
I don't think we've seen the last of him UNLESS he's convicted.

7. He won by a slim 5% last time
He had only 55% of the vote in a Republican stronghold. I think he was on his way out with or without the indictment. Personally, I prefer he leave in shame and surrounded by scandal. I like the way it reflects on the Republican party as a whole.

4. This dude's going to be swatting bugs in a prison cell. DA Earle didn't ..

.... delay his retirement to play games with this scumbag criminal.

And, as many know, DA Earle has convicted and jailed some quite powerful Texans in his day, including many Dems.

Bye, bye tommie boy ....

Peace.

6. He's an albatross along with Frist, Lott, & Chimpie.
The question is, how many dead birds do we need to hang around the Repuglican Party before the Dems start pointing to the stench?

I still believe Carville was correct when he said "When your opponent is sinking, throw the motherf*cker an anchor!"
