1. I think this is great news for Howard Dean
It shows that people are fed up with the status quo
and proves that the traditional camps can be beaten,
and beaten badly, in 2004.

hee heeeeeee!

13. How do I feel?
Shocked and very angry at the stupidity of so many of my fellow
Americans. This is the beginning of the end - the Bushies will
blatantly continue on their path of destruction, reinforced by the
knowledge the majority of Americans are willing to accept their
lies, wars, poverty, etc. without question.

My only hope is the coming election incumbents will lose. I've
been disappointed so much the past years, right now I'm anything but
optimistic about the future. I'm sick and tired of writing and calling
anyone who will listen. It's starting to get old.

I may collapse from exhaustion sitting here watching these results tonight, but after Florida 2000 I don't trust any polls or projections- real vote counts are it! (Of course, the issue of whether the votes ARE all being counted is another one entirely...)

4. Tired...
... tired of the media deciding so-and-so WILL win the election.

... tired of the dummies out there too stupid to think properly before exercising their right to vote, who insist on picking candidates thorougly unqualified for the job.

... tired of the crooks and scumbags passing themselves off as honest, decent good guys then managing to get elected in spite of all sorts of nasty allegations about their abysmal private lives.

... tired of the same old shit in the political campaigns: "I WILL fix what's wrong with this (city, state, country, etc.)" but never backing that up with any solid plans or factual information; used to be candidates had to at least present SOME kind of strategy no matter how pathetic, but thanks to Arnie now we've seen you don't even have to pretend to have a clue to get elected.

... tired of the bad guys winning time after time, one way or the other.

55. I am afraid you are correct.
Short of violent revolution, for which I have no interest in partaking, I see no end in site. The American public are for the most part sycophantic, infantile, suicidal, morons. They get and are getting what they deserve. My family, however, deserves better. The country I once loved, is no more. I am getting the house in order to sell, and looking into a move to New Zealand. I am tired and demotivated...what the fuck is the point? My countrymen want to be shit on....infact it appears, as long as the shit comes from a gilded anus they'll trample one another for the honor of sucking a turd from it.

I am to the point where if I were to stay here....I might opt to become the sort to take advantage of the situation. Why not? Those who I fight for, call me unpatriotic and un-american. Why not fuck them in the ass, stuff my pockets with cash and bath in my victims admiration? I know how the game is played....I understand the finer points of being devious, though, up until recently I've been unwilling to consider the possibility of going that route. I still am I guess.....While I have no doubt I could 'succeed' quite handsomely in it's persuit....it would kill me spiritually. It is time to go to a more sane place and live a simpler more harmonious life.

The sad fact is....is that Bush and company will get away with everything they have done....and deep down we all know...hope against hopes...that they will. Why will they? Quite simply, because Americans respect and idolize criminals....and view those who behave with honor as weak and simple. Operating with virtue in such an atmosphere is not only pointless but dangerous. Our once great nation has been successfully usurped by the cancer of fascism. I fear it has progressed to far to be excised. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe I should have more faith....that's what Pat Robertson tells me anyway.

17. Yes, but (there's always a but)...
In order for the greater good to be done (assuming you're not being overly optimistic), California will have to go down in flames with Arnold.

There's going to be a lot of collateral damage -- both human and economic.

And as much as I hate to keep parroting "As California goes, so goes the nation," it's true -- meaning, watch out for the ripple effect throughout the rest of the U.S.

But, if someone could guarantee that the wholesale sacrifice of California would get those crooks out of power in D.C., then, well, what the hell -- the Golden State ain't what it used to be anyway.

Angry.

Sad beyond words.

Scared.

Ashamed, for the first time in my life, to call myself a Californian.

Hurt by suggestions of boycotting California. (I've been out of work over three years -- how much more do you want to punish me for what they've done?)

In pain, watching the state I love go down in flames.

See, even with the U.S. as a whole in the toilet, I still kinda had hope for CA...

It's an hour and a half after the polls closed. The last I looked there were reports from only 18% of the state - and I understand that the absentee ballots might take a month to count - and yet Tweety's orgasmic over a *victory speech* that this RovianRobot intends to make momentarily. MonkeyBoy ain't my President - and SteroidBoy ain't my Govenor. I'll be working on a package deal for them - out in 2004.

50/50 my ass.

No matter how many cars he smashed on the campaign trail, Schwarzenegger can't touch the car tax...it's not in the power of the governor to 'roll back ' the car tax once it's been triggered.

If he's going to put Warren Buffett on timeouts every time the man makes a sensible suggestion, then he's not really interested in changing the status quo, is he?

I don't want to wait and see. I voted last fall for Governor Gray and I'm pissed that my vote was thrown out this summer by a bunch of people who don't want to pay for anything, and blame someone else for their problems.

No it's not the end of the world, but you are part of the problem as long as you don't become part of the solution.

35. Some good things that will come out of this
California is mess right now and there are no easy solutions and no quick fixes. Arnold is going to find it rough sledding and those turncoat Democrats and those blinded by his stardom will soon tire
of him.

Wait till California finds out that they can't just rescind the car tax.

This will be a wake up call for the CA Democrat Party which had become far too complacent. Next time find some better candidates.

This was all about Gray Davis. Even before the recall was conceived his approval numbers were in the twenties.

November 2002 was far worse for the Democrats. (small consolation).

Bush is still going down in CA in 2004. The turncoat Democrats will be back in the fold long before then.

Things could be a lot worse.

"It's 70% how you look, 20% how you sound and 10% what you say"

The republicans know how to win elections... get a rich, conceited, sharp dresser that knows how to work a crowd and voila, insta-lection.

nobody cares about substance anymore. people are probably more likely to vote for a barely-sentient candidate that calls his opponents pussies and gets into fistfights at local bars than someone who actually has a clue.

i'd like to think these people suffer from the harrison ford complex. they want to sleep soundly knowing that if their governor was on a plane hijacked by angry albanians, he could stealthly kill each and every one of them with nothing but his bare hands and a ball-point pen. and in true hollywood fashion, the last one would be thrown out the rear-end and explode just yards from the plane.

if we want a democrat to take the white house, lets have them keep their ideas and policies under wraps for the first 6 months of campaigning and make them brag about how many women they screwed in college and if they had a chance, they'd knock on that kim jong il fella's door and punch him right in the kisser when he answered.

He would be unstoppable!

Sorry if this insults any of you DU'ers... but this is a sad, sad showing for the Democratic party, and for Democracy in general.

49. Yup. Half-hearted, weak-willed, defeatism won't work
You're absolutely correct.

46. Time for some defeatist sex!
Something my friend said after the news called the 2000 Presidential election for Bush, and it made me laugh. :)

48. I'm stunned.
I always wondered how nearly half the country voted for Bush.

But then again, Bush touted a populist message, he lied and said he was something that he wasn't. I believe a great majority of the fools that voted for him were simply ignorant and uninformed.

But this... this is... MY GOD! These people who voted for that Nazi-lovin pig KNEW what he was! They KNEW he had NO experience whatsoever! They KNEW he wasn't qualified to clean toilets, much less be governor of a state as large as California.

They KNEW he was a groper of women. Hell women knew and they CHEERED the fucker!

How the hell could a woman, any support such a vile creature?

I'm simply stunned. And disgusted. I feel, for the first time, like informed persons such as ourselves are the minority and we are ruled by idiots and "morans."

I need a drink...

50. Very disappointed, disillusioned with Dems
More and more I'm feeling that Dems have little or no backbone. I can't stand Republican values but at least they FIGHT with everything they have. Democrats would never be allowed to get away with recalling a duly elected Governor. I'm just grossed out right now.

51. forget "motor voter" registration...
.. we have "moron voter" registration in CA!
All image, no substance... if it's fine for the governor, I might just try this winning approach at work tomorrow and see how it flies.
This is so frustrating.

Oh, and now JAY LENO is introducing Arnold for his concession speech. I'm not going to watch his show again.

52. Sad, angry and baffled.
I know it's stupid of me not to know the answer to this--but WHY do politicians concede so early? It's very disheartening to voters. It makes it seem as if votes don't count. And I know lots of people think the absentee votes will favor Arnold, but a lot of Dems are afraid of vote fraud and may also have voted absentee. I see that now at 41% reporting the gap is only 10%. It's narrowing. Does a concession speech count if later the numbers show the person hasn't lost?

Earlier today I read the thread of CA voters checking in--that was demoralizing too--several reports of problems. Especially disturbing was that long-time voters weren't on the list and had to vote provisionally. But the envelopes were too small, so they had to fold ballots that said "do not fold"--so will they be disqualified? Could this have been orchestrated? I hate to believe that this has happened. Maybe I'm grabbing at straws.

One inspiring thing--I watched John Conyers and Sheila Jackson Lee and Kendrick Meek (on the floor of an otherwise empty House) speaking eloquently about the "Constitutional crisis" (Lee's words) the U.S. is facing with the White House leak and the Iraq WMD lies. This was on C-Span from 11 to about 11:40--I had tuned in for election coverage, not being able to stomach Tweety or Wolfy. We need to get a transcript. Write them encouraging letters. Maybe California is just a distraction now. There are much bigger fish to fry (sorry for the boring cliche).

Trying to not be utterly depressed. Not really suceeding...

56. Frustrated
but not defeated. Not ever defeated. After all, as the 60's anthem goes, we SHALL overcome.

This may be a real turning point for America. There may be another social revolution the likes of which we haven't seen since the 60's on the horizon. How could that be bad?

Who's the DUer who always says "Dems gotta keep on truckin .,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,"? I would like to envoke his/her spirit...NOW!

57. Got My Wake Up Call
If this isn't a wake up call, I don't know what you all are waiting for.

Time to get serious. Work harder. Use this joke of a recall to put the screws to the Repubs for their failed policies. We already have Bush on the ropes, but as we saw tonight, there's still a lot of work to be done to educate people.

Don't hang your heads, Dems. Get out there and fight.

This fraud changes nothing and I for one won't be losing any sleep over it. Lets just keep our eyes on the prize and as Bob Marley said, everything will be allright.

60. Ronnie got elected.....
.......and we laughed till it hurt.

But this is just too bizarre to funny.

If this is indicative of the US's future, the rest of the World needs to be very, very wary.
We are seeing the US become both aggressive......and completely unpredictable.

It scares me.

61. Scared that people are so stupid
and selfish and morally bankrupt. Freaking out at the possibility of Boring Snatch's proposed constitutional amendment somehow passing and waking up to President Schwarzenegger in 2008 or 2012. Hey, it's the Bizarro World. Anything can happen.
