Give 'em Hell, Harry

Senator Reid Unveils "GiveEmHellHarry.com"

Washington- Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid today unveiled a new online campaign headquarters – GiveEmHellHarry.com – to provide Americans with the tools to make an impact on the fight for control of the U.S. Senate.

“There is a great deal at stake. While Democrats fight for better health care, energy independence, restoring America’s global strength and rebuilding our economy through innovation and reform, Republicans continue to ignore their failures and resist progress,” This website is a place where people can take action. Together, we can change the future.”

Today on GiveEmHellHarry.com, Reid called on Americans to join him in sending a clear, unambiguous message to the nation’s largest oil companies who refused to testify at a Democratic Policy Committee last week on rising gas prices. Reid also is leading efforts with his caucus on an Energy Independence 2020 effort to reduce gas prices and America?s dependence on Middle East oil.

“In the face of national tragedy, our nation’s oil companies are recording record profits while Americans are paying 50% more at the pump than they did just one year ago,” Reid said. “Democrats in the Senate have set a national priority to make America safer and more secure by reducing our dependence on foreign oil by 2020. If Republicans can’t lead on this issue, we will.”

6. Did you hear Reid on Franken today
Al was giving it to him about the bankruptcy bill stating that most bankruptcies happen becuase of illness, divorce, job loss etc etc and that basically the law sucks and Harry said well I'll have to disagree with you on that Al Then a little while later Al took another shot at him regarding the bankruptcy law. I was pretty happy with Al on that one

3. My fav Harry story: “You son of a bitch, you tried to bribe me!”
"In July of 1978, a man named Jack Gordon, who was later married to LaToya Jackson, offered Reid twelve thousand dollars to approve two new, carnival-like gaming devices for casino use. Reid reported the attempted bribe to the F.B.I. and arranged a meeting with Gordon in his office. By agreement, F.B.I. agents burst in to arrest Gordon at the point where Reid asked, “Is this the money?” Although he was taking part in a sting, Reid was unable to control his temper; the videotape shows him getting up from his chair and saying, “You son of a bitch, you tried to bribe me!” and attempting to choke Gordon, before startled agents pulled him off. “I was so angry with him for thinking he could bribe me,” Reid said, explaining his theatrical outburst. Gordon was convicted in federal court in 1979 and sentenced to six months in prison."

5. On calling bush a liar...
Another excerpt from the same New Yorker article (Thanks for the link! :hi: )...

Barely a year into his first term, Bush approved the project, and Reid accused him of lying: “I thought he had misled the people of Nevada on nuclear waste.” Of calling Bush a liar, Reid said, “If somebody doesn’t tell the truth, how else would you describe it? I guess I could have said he didn’t tell the truth.”

Indeed... how else would you describe it?

7. I think it was the interview with Rolling Stone in which
Reid was asked about having called * a loser and a liar. Reid had apologize for calling * a loser and the RS interviewer asked about the apology. Reid pointedly noted that he had apologized for calling * a loser, but had NOT apologized for calling him a liar.
