but a few minutes ago with 16% reporting the yes votes were more than 250,000 more. The percentages are closing.

It is NOT over. The media runs the exit polling. Jesse Jackson says there were dirty tricks.

There are very large counties (like LA) that have barely started getting totals in (10% turnout so far).

There is more outstanding than the 10% spread on the recall question.

It's going to be a long night. Davis should just go to bed and see what the totals are in the morning.

Statewide showing a 14.6% turnout? It's going to be atleast 50%.

4. Hell yes there were dirty tricks. I hope they wait as long as possible

Dirty trick: "forgetful" voter registration for Dems and progressives, forcing them to vote on "provisional ballots" and then giving them envelopes too small for the ballot, so they have to fold it (ballot says "do not fold" -- because the optical scan may not be able to read it!) This also has the effect of delaying the counting of these votes, which may run as high as 90 percent against Arnold, making it appear that the margins are different than they really are.

I have a report (working on confirming it) from a VERY credible source, that modems may have been hooked up to machines while the election was live. Without looking at the paper ballots on the optical scans, who knows what was done.

I have memos from the programmer of the optical scan, that pass the word about uploading and overwriting vote counts with new ones.

The truth is, we have no idea what's happening in California, and the propensity to assume that just because some stats showed up on a TV camera the votes were cast that way is just naive.

How about we find out what happened first? Remember, on Nov 5, 2002, everyone said that the Georgia election went off without a hitch. Now look at the mess it turned out to be. Wait for the evidence, and while you're at it, go do a little investigating.

12. Thug strategy #4305b: Force a premature concession

Like they tried to do with Gore. If Davis steps in front of everyone and concedes, it won't matter what the facts are. I hope he toughs it out -- here is a preview of what you will read in a later chapter of Black Box Voting: The real story behind calling the election for Bush (on Fox TV, by his cousin, based on a sudden and surprising 16,000 vote spread) and Gore's near-concession (he'd written his speech, called Bush to concede, and was on his way to concede publicly when a little birdie told him it was all bullshit) -- Ed Bradley, of 60 Minutes, was an unsung hero that night, when he rang the bells...Fire, Foes, Alert Alert...

And Gore pissed of the Bushistas royally by withdrawing his concession.

I fervently hope Gray Davis waits until the absentee and provisional ballots are fully counted and all examinations and audits of the machine tallies are done.

13. Candidates should not concede until the day after the election, at

the earliest. Both parties ought to insist on an end to the media calling for concessions based on projections. (An end to projections would be OK, too. Some of us remember the excitement of listening to the vote tallies come in and trying to make our own projections. Patience is a virtue. I'll bet Wolf Blizer and his ilk open their gifts on December 23.)

The alternative, judging from the way things have been going, is that we'll see candidates conceding before a single vote is cast, based just on polls.

15. How many absentee ballots are there?

and how many are from dems who wanted to make sure their vote was not fudged by electronic voting machines?

I heard 2 million absentee ballots but I don't recall where, and it seems unrealistic.
