I wouldn't be surprised if it happened, as Bushco is in need of a major distraction.

11. I'm betting on Janice Rogers Brown --
a black woman whose politics place her a bit to the right of Darth Vader. Then, when the Dems object to her appointment, they will be accused of racism and sexism.

25. And they should counter with
"cut the crap: just because we criticize her does not mean we are doing so based on race or gender. The fact that you resort to such charges, rather than trying to build her up, is quite revealing, wouldn't you say?"

7. So, we're just 'setting ourselves up to be distracted'?
Distracted by this guy who has power (that we - THE PEOPLE - allow him to have? So that HE can appoint someone HE LIKES? To further impose their will on us? And we're paying to be lied to? shat upon?

When will this stop?

21. I just don't think
George and the boys have that kind of political capital anymore to strongarm the moderates into supporting a totally unqualified wingnut like Priscilla Owen. Those halcyon days are long gone. How is Bill Frist supposed to keep Olympia Snowe, et al, in line when his insider trading scandal looms? It's every Senator for him or herself as 2006 approaches and the leadership is sinking like a rock. Visions of slick tv ads of Lincoln Chafee's head morphing into the hideous Mr. DeLay before our very eyes. I just don't see it now. The threat of a filibuster isn't wishful thinking anymore.

19. This discussion of a few days ago seems relevant
Bush, asked about his next nominee, said “I will pick a person who can do the job. But I am mindful that diversity is one of the strengths of the country.” The president is under pressure from many quarters — including his wife — to pick a woman or a minority for the seat of Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, who is retiring.

Personally, I think it will be Alberto Gonsellout, but it could well be Brown.
