Do some Bustamante supporters deserve blame (credit?) for recalling Davis?
Bill Schneider was breaking down some of the data on CNN, and one bit that I noticed was his analysis of the Latino vote (based on exit polls, I think).

Specifically, how many of them voted Yes on the recall and then voted for Bustamante (despite Bustamante's campaigning on http://www.noonrecallyesonbustamante.com/)

I looked on the CNN site and didn't see the same breakdown, but I'm wondering if that might have been the difference, considering how close the Yes/No vote was (54/46 last I checked).

Would some of the DUers who love to bash Green voters in '00, even if their state was already a lock one way or the other for Bush or Gore, care to jump on the Bustamante supporters for awhile? Here's your chance. Knock yourselves out.

If anyone can find the actual data that Schneider was quoting that'd be nice, too.

1. Bustamante ran a lousy campaign
as a matter of fact there were many days when he didn't campaign at all while Davis and Arnold and Huffington and Camajo and McClintock were out busting there butts for votes.

The final analysis is Davis was probably corrrect, we shouldn't have had any prominent democrat listed on the second ballot. Would it have made a difference? I don't know. Right now the race is 55-45, if it narrows to 53-47 on recalling Davis and exit polls show Latino voters supported Davis by 53-47 but gave over 60% to Bustamante they might make an arguement that some people may have voted against Davis but for Bustamante.

2. I am going to have to see all the data
But I do think that Bustamente's campaign was horrible and that he let Arnold seize the momentum.

Davis can claim credit for recalling Davis.

Regardless of being right or wrong, no person in this world is worth 26-86 million dollars to me. This was a lose-lose situation for Davis. He didn't take one for the team and he is getting exactly what he deserves.

BTW...thank you for blaming this on the Latino vote. This only reaffirms what I have had suspicions about. As far as local politics goes, if none of the candidates are a woman, black or have a latino last name then I will not vote.

5. I'm not personally blaming anyone, just sharing Schneider's analysis
and wondering why the resident DU "Nader haters" aren't half as pissed at Dems who voted yes on the CA recall as they are at folks who thought Nader, Moore, etc had some valid points to make leading up to the 2000 election.
