DeLay/Frist--Do I Smell "Clinton" in the Air???
Tinfoil hat time--only this one has a smiley face!

The only Democrat who has a power infrastructure to match Bush and the Republicans is Bill Clinton because he was President for 8 years. That job builds and wields more contacts and power than any on the planet. Gore and Kerry don't have it. They were just nominees. Dean doesn't have it as head of the DNC.

So I look at the strikes now at Frist and DeLay and probably Rove coming down the line. I've always said that the only way we are going to ever win again is to erase this Repbulicans=God/good notion that has been successfully planted in people's minds. It appears to me that the "Corruption" campaign has been kicked off, i.e., the beginning of smearing the Republicans as corrupt scum. And all of this against a backdrop of being pillaged at the pump(and I'm sure Clinton knew that when the oil barons got into office that eventually the people would be pillaged). I think we are seeing the launch (don't launch a new line until the Fall, you know)of an orchestrated campaign to expose the Repubs as the filth they are in order to destroy them as the "holy ones". And, I'll bet Clinton is a big part of wielding the power necessary to do it.

I smell Clinton in the bringing together the powers to tarnish these slime as a backdrop for his particular objective of getting Hillary elected. They have smeared her something awful. The antidote is to cast them as corrupt, evil people. I imagine in the next couple years Hillary will be presented as the "healing Mom" trying to clean the house of vermin. Whether he succeeds in getting her the nomination or not remains to be seen (but, again, he wields a lot of power to this day). But the "Corrupt" campaign sets the stage for all Democrats as their rallying cry.

4. Are we going to have to hear
about Whitewater and Vince Foster and all those folks she and Bill MURDERED to get to the White House?

Those were some wild and crazy accusations. I never saw that video the pubs were peddaling back then, but I hear it was a doozie.

10. ditto. its mere speculation with nothing really behind it...not that
there's anything wrong with speculation, but I don't see any underpinnings that even point to the beginning of the presumption other than "Clinton was smart".

And I am one people call a conspiracy theorist! but this one is too weak a connection, at this time, for me to buy into.

What's a great deal MORE likely to me is that the old style conservative republicans are trying to take back control of their party from the neocons, before republicans become unelectable.

5. True and Gore won with a challenge from the left in the form of Nader.
When Clinton won in 1992 bush1 had a challenge from Perot.

Without Perot in that race it's very likely Clinton would have lost.

3. I say no.
Ronnie Earle has had this investigation going for years and has the intelligence and integrity to pursue this on his own. He has indicted Democrats (12) AND Republicans (3) in the past and focuses on the party in power.

I think it degrades his incessant and even courageous efforts to attribute his indictment to a Democratic puppet-master

9. You are so right......
unfortunately, he will be slimed, maligned, vilified and crucified by the thuglicans for daring to stand up to them. The "he's a crazy, partisan zealot" meme has already started.
I have a feeling he can stand up to the task ahead though, since he has proven to be dogged and determined in his quest to flush out the corruption in texas politics for so many years and knows their tactics very well.
We'll see how the media treats him. The outcome, as we all well know, will be determined by the media.

6. This Is Too Much Credit For Clinton
I don't think that he has all that sort of trusted connection and/or resources to pull off this type of thing. He,Clinton, like the rest of us may wish for it, but I will not go that far to claim that he can put the resources together to pull it off. In fact, I think the BFFE has far, far more resources than Clinton to counter it if such a scheme even exist!

7. Gore and Kerry were NOT just nominees.

If they can prove that Republican corruption denied them a right to the presidency, I hate to tell you, but they would be the rightful heirs to the White House.

I love Bill Clinton, and I think he did a remarkable job of taking the initial barrage from the "right-wing conspiracy," but he had eight years, and in that time, he made allies with people that today make us nervous. I want us to move AWAY from the era of cronyism, and I don't know that Hillary will be able to do that.

I don't think it was Bill Clinton's nor Gore's nor Kerry's fault that it's taken us this long to uncover the level of Republican corruption. I think it was the failure of the Democratic party, and, I'm sorry, but I think the Liberals should have been more pro-active in understanding that their extremism played right into the hands of the conservatives.

Instead of attacking your own, you all should have taken more time to study your opponents and beaten them where they were the weakest: Morality, ethical and criminal issues. They were so busy launching a successful offensive, that you all hardly noticed that whatever they accused you of being, they were 100 times worse.

Just my two cents.

8. It's the cronyism that I'm thinking of
This guy has the connections to start the ball rolling towards trying to get Hillary the nomination/the Oval office. Of course, he's going to use what he can muster (is there any doubt?). I don't want to see her in either because I think she offers little in contrast to what is there now. BUT, I think the very, very important thing is to seize this "corrpution" campaign that seems to be launched and undoubtedly will be built upon. THAT's the message we have got to pound and pound to finally turn these political dense people in this country around. They are being squeezed and stomped on by the republicans and all it takes is the constant drumbeat of a "campaign" like this to get enough of them sickened with these vermin. The people in the past knew who they were and now have their brain washed into believing they're a great Christian army marching forward. Keep up the "corruption" chants, charges and investigations. It's the only way we are going to finally wake the people up.

11. It's simply Karma & their own arrogance bringing them down.
Edited on Thu Sep-29-05 11:35 AM by 8_year_nightmare
Their corruption is so widespread that the dam had to break.

Earle, who has prosecuted far more Democrats when they held the power in Texas, has been working on DeLay's case for a few years, which means that he began at the height of the Republicans' power in federal government.

Considering the media helped the Republicans bring down Bill Clinton, I couldn't even fantasize that they would conspire with him to take down their corporate friends. In fact, I'm not counting my chickens yet on DeLay.

And I'm anxiously waiting to see what Fitzgerald comes up with. I hope Karma comes through. Enough is enough.
