Missiles vs. storm relief
I received a mass e-mail warning about a few people who are exploiting the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina for personal gain.
You know, appealing to the generosity of people more fortunate and asking for money to assist the homeless, hungry and the survivors of those who have passed on and then using it for personal gain is sick, really.
Anyhow, this made me think, how come the government has all the money in the world to develop new ballistic nuclear missiles and send people to Mars, but when a horrifying national tragedy strikes right here at home, all of a sudden a call goes out for donations? I would definitely rather my tax money be spent on disaster relief than for a brand-new intercontinental ballistic missile.
Also, giving no-bid restoration contracts to the same old corporations instead of the local companies, thus employing some of the disenfranchised locals, makes little sense to me.
Hey, what do I know, though? I’m just a soldier.
