Addressing a caller's suggestion that the "lost revenue from the people who have been aborted in the last 30 years" would be enough to preserve Social Security's solvency, radio host and former Reagan administration Secretary of Education Bill Bennett dismissed such "far-reaching, extensive extrapolations" by declaring that if "you wanted to reduce crime ... if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down." Bennett conceded that aborting all African-American babies "would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do," then added again, "but the crime rate would go down."


Did you catch that "every"? Oh my god, EVERY??

And this man was Secretary of Education??

Oh I just friggin give up. This man ought to have been aborted himself.

If you aborted every white baby in this country, the crime rate would go down. If you abort every latino baby in this country, the crime rate would go down.

Mathematically, if you get rid of ANY population group in its entirety, the crime rate would go down. Why? Because every population group is responsible for a certain percentage of our crime rates. If you remove that population, you remove their effect on the crime rate.

Reading his comment, it seems to me that he was trying to dismiss the fallacious anti-abortion argument by throwing an equally fallacious one out himself. Then again, I try not to be cynical to the point of being called a pollyanna.

When he qualified it with "black babies", he moved beyond that. He qualified it. No go.
