Subject: Re-legalizing Hemp

I love this site, but I do not believe that I have seen mention of H.R. 3037, which is a bill to remove Hemp from the list of controlled substances. At a time of peak oil, we really need to move forward fast on renewables. Hemp would be a good start.

bio diesel runs in conventional diesel engines

bio diesel can be made from oil, and hemp is an "oil seed"

bio diesel has much healthier emissions, lacking the sulfates and particulates, you can practically breath the exhaust, I know, I've ridden in the "hemp mobile". The differences in pollution alone are worth it

hemp is a cheap crop, grows virtually anywhere, does NOT drain the soil like other crops, and unbelievably, it requires far less in terms of fertilizers

many other products can be manufactured from hemp, paper, clothing and food products which are the nutritional equal of soy while being much cheaper to grow.

hemp is a variety of cannabis which contains trace amounts of thc, and in effect, it cannot be used "to get high". In fact, any accidental cross-pollination would WEAKEN any thc-carrying crops nearby.

hemp and bio diesel are the best solutions for many of our problems, leaving aside the drug war and medicines ENTIRELY

Why is cannabis illegal?

info on Jack Herer. He is in a large part responsible for the renewed interest in hemp.

His book "The Emperor Wears No Clothes", is an excellent source of info on industrial hemp, and a must read for everyone.

I gave a copy to Jimmy Carter back in 94-95, at one of his book signings. However, I really don't think he read it. I was hoping that he would, so he could use his influence to help our country get back to being more independent from OPEC.

Re-legalizing would have a tremendous impact on our economy by providing JOBS.

15. You are completely wrong about Henry Ford and hemp

Henry Ford may have been a nazi sympathizer, but he was actually a huge proponent of hemp. He constructed a car of resin stiffened hemp fiber, and even ran the car on ethanol made from hemp. http://www.hempcar.org/ford.shtml But still, thanks for posting this, industrial hemp needs our support.

19. I have never heard that

nor did a quick search come up with anything. Hemp was criminalized in 1937, except for a brief period of re-legalization during WWII. Ford was still an advocate for hemp even after it was criminalized (he made his "hemp car" in 1941). It was really Dupont and William Randolph Hearst (on behalf of the timber/paper industry)along with Henry Anslinger, the zealous G-Man who went after weed when prohibition ended that should get most of the blame for criminalizing hemp.
